Improving curly/wavy hair

I'm looking for a gadget that would give me a more consistent look.
My hair is wavy mostly but can curl. I've tried curly girl and more or less follow it but I hate that it's so random. I can't guarantee my hair will look OK if I need it to
The top layer frizzes easily
I considered the babyliss big hair to smooth the top layer but think it will drag it down too much
Has anyone used a gadget that will smooth without destroying the curl/wave?

Is the wow dreamcoat a spray or a cream?

I have the MHU ionic hairdryer. I’ve no idea if there’s a better one but it was a huge improvement on the one I had previously and it seems to do a good job.

I have long wavy hair which does loosely curl if scrunched. I always dampen my hair and plait overnight, and this gives tight curls which I like to brush out (with a tangle teezer then maintain with wide-tooth comb) into larger waves. It does tend to frizz slightly but I don't mind that at all, like another poster I like the bohemian look.

I rarely like to use heat tools or hairdryers nowadays, but on rare occasion will use my standard curling tong for neater curls, or Babyliss Big Hair after, and if ever, blow drying straight.

I wash hair once or twice a week and rotate many different products, but always including a little argan oil for the ends.

I used to have straight hair when I was young but it got wavier as I got into my 20s and now (many years later!) is full on ringlet type curls.

I used to spend a fortune on haircuts, products, driers etc. No longer. I've cut it myself for years - cutting the curls dry is best.

I aim for a natural look and so
wash it 2 times a week, 3 at the most using a good quality conditioner and shampoo - a decent argan oil one works well for me. I don't towel or fiddle with it too much (to avoid frizz) and spray liberally with Frizz Ease Dream Curls then leave to dry naturally.

In the mornings I simply spray with water and leave to dry. If I don't feel like the ringlet look I give it a vigorous shake upside down and run my fingers through it to get a more waved look - but will need to give it a bit of support with a spritz of Elnett spray.

@HighHeelBoots it's a spray...bit pricey but does make a difference

TaraR2020 · 03/03/2021 16:12

@HighHeelBoots

My natural look is fairly scruffy. I don't know if i went that way to embrace the hairWink but I don't want to look polished Bohemian sounds much better I had loads of nectar points so I've ordered the Panasonic nanoe. I do have enough left for the big hair but it's the potential for a 'polished finish that concerns me
If it helps I have neither the time or the patience for a polished look Grin

I find that my 2c hair is typically in a one state of misbehaviour or another, the technique i suggested is what I do to get frizz free, manageable, effortless hair that tends to stop it tangling until the next wash. It gets curlier as it goes but passes for both work, evenings out (remember those?!) and daytime.

I finger curl my wavy hair before I dry it with a diffuser, it seems to help. I find the longer my hair draws the more likely I am to have ringlets with I love. I don't have a specialist curly hair hairdresser, but I cut it myself -unicorn cut (there are YouTube videos). It also helps to never shampoo it, but to cowash every 4 days. Shampoo left my hair a tangled frizzy mess.

@17Lupinhere37
Thank you so much for the hairdryer recommendation. I have just used it for the first time and it's incredible. I have a, fairly new, ionic dryer but it doesn't compare. It is fast. The cold set is properly cold and my hair feels incredible. Soft but the curl holds
It was free too as I used nectar points at Argos where its half price

AnnaMagnani · 07/03/2021 10:53

What sort of conditioner are you using?

I have wavy/curly hair that is different every time and very frizz prone - I always believed it needed light products as my hair is fine. I am now drowning it in leave in conditioner and the difference is unbelievable.

Also protein - apparently my hair was crying out for it.

TwoBreakingIntoOne · 07/03/2021 12:19

I could open a CG shop. I have protein, moisture, heavy, light, rinse out, leave in conditioners
I get a good first day with a lot of leave in but awful afterwards

Peanutbutterandbananatoastie · 07/03/2021 12:28

@HappyWipings

My hair is randomly wavy and cg just doesn't work for me. I've realised that it looks best when I plait my hair after washing and leave it overnight. I put mine in two plaits as it's short.
Same. Plus I read somewhere that you want moisture if your frizz is dry and brittle and protein if it’s soft and looses its curl easily. I added this to my other curly jelly and it made a huge difference:

Ahh cross post Smile

Lupinhere37 · 07/03/2021 12:54

@HighHeelBoots

So pleased you have found it helps; I wouldn’t be without mine. It makes a massive difference to my hair and just my “getting ready” routine.

I’ve been a bit worried that you bought something you wouldn’t like, so thank you for the updateSmile
