Hi, I'm 42, no wrinkles yet but horrible downward lines on the sides of my mouth make it look like I'm permanently frowning. Will retinol help? Or something else?

Thanks

3% retinol is different to 3% Retin A (pure Vit A). Your face would be falling off with the latter.

Prescription tretinoin is the way to go, in my opinion.

@AnnieGetYourPun

😂 My face is falling off!!!

It say 3% on the front of the jar though. 🧐

😂😂😂 No really, it won't be a 3% retinol without coming from a Prescribing doctor/nurse.

I don't doubt that your face is falling off though 😂 It's likely a retinol/Retinyl palmitate mix (skincare is so shady). I'll take a read of the ingredients

I have a tret recommendation - A313 available at amazon for £19.50 and lasts ages as you only use the smallest amount. I’ve only been using it about 2 weeks so I can’t tell you it’s amazing, but there are lots of YouTube videos talking about it so could be worth a watch.

You need proper prescription tretoin if you really want to make a difference. Try Dermatica or Skin+me, at least they can monitor your progress and adjust your prescription accordingly.

cheeseisthebest · 04/03/2021 21:56

Um I don't think I can get a prescription for a few grown lines?

@SomethingbeginningL... thanks. There’s me getting het up about using so much retinol.

openupmyeagereyes · 05/03/2021 06:41

cheeseisthebest getting a prescription from Dermatica or Skin+me isn’t like getting a prescription from a doctor, it’s basically a way around this. However, it’s approximately £23 every 1-2 months depending on usage so possibly out of your budget.

I get my what would be prescription strength Retin A (tretinoin), brand name Retirides from a Spanish online pharmacy - here Retin A with no prescription

I find 0.05% is the right strength for anti-aging for me. I'm 46, no lines, very good skin.

It's 25 euros PLUS postage is 15 euros but it's well worth it, lasts a long time and actually works. If I were you, I would spend the extra 12 / 13 quid on something effective.

cheeseisthebest · 05/03/2021 11:18

Oh I see sorry thought you meant dr prescription.

I just want to buy a retinol on Amazon thats reasonably priced and the right percentage!

I'm around the same age as you OP, and after all the research I've done, it would appear retinols from the high street won't cut the mustard anymore if you're over 40, it needs to be a form of vitamin A.

justanotherneighinparadise · 05/03/2021 15:58

Be slightly fearful of the purge that comes from this stuff. I haven’t had spots for a good decade and right now I have lots (Zimbabwe now 2 weeks in) 😬

justanotherneighinparadise · 05/03/2021 15:58

Zimbabwe 🤣🤣🤣🤣

cheeseisthebest · 05/03/2021 19:22

Hmm maybe I will just leave it then!

Try A313 from www.thefrenchpharmacy.com or amazon. Its approx £20. It has rave reviews.

cheeseisthebest · 06/03/2021 15:50

Thank you
