Babyliss Big Hair? (or equivalent)

My hair is pissing me off these days - it used to be one of my best features I’d say, but now it’s just annoying me.

It’s longish (thanks lockdowns!), dark brown and wavy/ frizzy, but was always in great condition and looked lovely when I’d straightened it- would stay looking nice for a good few days; wouldn’t stay super straight for long but would remain smooth with a bit of movement.

I got in a bit of a rut when I had DD (2) - the grey seemed to suddenly appear, and I didn’t have time to wash, dry and straighten it so ended up cutting it a lot shorter and trying to do Curly Girl. I suppose it kind of looked ok but I just don’t feel like myself with waves/ curls, I hate not being able to run my hand through it, it gets tangled when DD plays with it (like all the time 🤬) and has to be faffed with a lot to get it to look ok.

I also had it dyed when I went back to work, but I hate the roots appearing so quickly, so am letting it grow out again with a temporary home dye (castings) to blend in a bit in the meantime- although now I’m worried that is lasting longer than I thought so will end up with roots again before it fades!

I started straightening again recently but it to be honest I don’t really want a flat ironed look, just to make it stay smooth- so was wondering if something like the big hair would be good instead? It seemed really popular on here a few years ago but I’ve not heard much about it since.

I also need to find a good hairdresser as my last 3 ended up having babies then quitting work, and not found anyone good since- I think my rubbish layers are not helping my hair to sit nicely. Anyway that’s another issue...

So, is the big hair worth a try, or does anyone have any other tips to help get my hair mojo back? Maybe now in my late 30s I’m just too old for long dark hair 🙁

I had the big hair and liked it, but I've been blown away (excuse the pun) by the Dyson AirWrap round brush tool! It's ££££ but so much better than the big hair. Doesn't spin though so that may be a consideration...

I have the big hair and the Revlon one step. I like them both, currently favouring Revlon

bendmeoverbackwards · 24/02/2021 11:39

I’ve got the Babyliss big hair, it’s ok. @Oly4 how is the Revlon one different? I’ve heard good reports about it.

Another vote for the Dyson air wrap. When lockdown is over you could also go for a Brazilian blow dry which would solve all your blow dry issues and give you perfect sleek locks for 3 months.

Revlon doesn’t twirl as it dries and I find it more smoothing. Though I do like big hair.
But I think the biggest change to my hair has been using the garnier ultimate blends papaya 3-in-1 mask, which seems to help turn my frizzy unruly hair into something sleeker

bendmeoverbackwards · 24/02/2021 12:27

Is the Revlon easy to use? I am rubbish at blow drying!

GinIsNotOriginal · 24/02/2021 12:35

You need cloud nine the O rollers!! They are genuinely life changing. I have long very thick brown hair (half Iranian and have inherited thick waves airing on the side of frizz) and have spent a fortune over the years on blow dries- every night out, date etc I would pay but With lockdown I’ve had to be my own hairdresser! They are really really amazing for a lovely voluminous bouncy look

CaptainWentworth · 24/02/2021 12:35

Thanks for the ideas everyone! I wasn’t looking to spend as much as for the Dyson, but now hunting for them on eBay...
May try the babyliss or the revlon as a cheaper intro option.

@Katrinawaves I have wondered about Brazilian blow dries in the past, but what happens as your hair grows out?

It gradually washes our over about 12 weeks. Quicker if you use the wrong shampoos. So generally speaking it looks great for the whole period but towards the end it starts to take a little longer to dry and style and feels less soft which is my sign to have another one.

I have long hair too (about bra strap) and find I can drop the frequency of my haircuts to about twice or three times a year if I’m having the Brazilian treatments in between. Without them my layers go puffy and I look all hair!
