Anyone used colour B4 and had good results?

I have dyed my hair dark brown for a couple of years, touching up the roots every 4 weeks and running colour through the lengths for 10 minutes every 5 months or so for 2 years so I don’t have a huge amount of build up. Underneath the dye is 2 years worth of grey/mid brown and the last 6 inches or so is highlighted. I brought 4 boxes of colour b4 today and am wondering what to expect, looking to go light brown.
Anyone had good results?

Hi! Iv used this before to go from black to light brown I had to use it quite a few times but not to a nice light brown in the end stupidly I went purple after :/ and tried again but just went ginger and couldn’t get rid of it! I’d say if you havnt got any red tones in the build up go for it! Good luck

@Jesslyra123 thanks, thats helpful, thinking ahead I brought 4 boxes because I had a feeling it wouldn’t lift enough with one application. It’s dark warm brown so lots of red in there. I’ve heard hair is really porous after stripping so brought a couple of boxes of semi permanent dark ash blond. I will report back, planning on having a go tomorrow afternoon.

I used to dye my hair frequently and would impulsively and tbh I hate colour before. I would sometimes get quite a bit of colour reoxidisation where it darkens again after you wash the shrunken pigments out, and I found it was a lot of time and effort with each application being long (and smelly!) And then the inevitable need to do at least one more application to get an even or successful result.

I find it much cheaper, quicker and easier to do a mild bleach bath. You can do it by sight and that will be the result you get

Sorry I just realised I am posting this after you have bought all the colour before but I hope it goes well!!

Sorry that should have said I impuslively seitched between light and dark shades

A couple of things;

  1. It stinks to high heaven
  1. Difficult to rinse out- You need to wash it out afterwards for ages until your arms ache
  1. Good shout to dye over in dark ash blonde, the brown dye you have been using will contain peroxide as developer meaning the brown will lift out but the underneath hair will be slightly bleached to a sort of pale sludgy ginger. It will look pretty bad unless you colour over it again.
  1. It's quite drying on your hair. If you're steady handed and have a vague artistic eye, then trim the ends with sharp scissors to prevent split ends traveling up the hair shaft
  1. Good luck, give us some before and after pics if you're brave!

I remember l could smell it when my hair for wet for about a week after. That was fun when got caught in the rain 🙄

It doesn't take you back to your natural colour. It takes you back to whatever the colour of your bleached hair is after stripping the colour out. So if the dye was permanent it most likely had peroxide and your hair will be orange underneath. I looked like a fraggle when l stripped red out of my hair.

I quite liked the colour mine went after but omg the smell! Vile

I used something similar last weekend qne it's left my hair this colour (from very dark brown) if that helps. One box.

Anyone used colour B4 and had good results?

That's a lovely colour woodland. It's a bit of pot luck I think how these things work on different people's hair. You've got a great result there.

Woodlandbelle · 23/02/2021 22:15

Thank You
I think it's a tiny bit orange for my liking plus very very dry. But I am going to leave it for a few weeks to leave it get back into good condition before I colour (might just use a shampoo with a slight tiny)

Woodlandbelle · 23/02/2021 22:15

Slight tint Smile

Make sure that you use a timer when rinsing and rinse for the full time stated.

I'd only do a second application if it is still dark or patchy - it won't remove any ginger tones, they are your underlying hair colour.

If you can rest your hair for a few days before dying again, and use a deep conditioning treatment in between, it will help with the porosity.

I used it once. My hair is naturally light/mid-brown and I had been colouring it in a permanent box dye to match the natural colour (to cover greys). Then I wanted to go lighter so I used colour b4. It worked fine for me. Left it slightly reddish which I understand is normal from the peroxide effects in the hair dyes I'd been using but it wasn't like I couldn't leave the house. I only used one box of the Colour b4 (mid-length hair). I think I covered it with a semi-permanent first - can't really remember - but have been using a permanent medium blonde ever since and it's come out just how I wanted it.

Ellpellwood · 24/02/2021 16:25

I got rid of a nearly black "dark brown" and went a chestnut brown. I semi-permed brown over it to get the redness out. It works, but stinks!

AndreaMarteau · 24/02/2021 16:25

My natural hair colour is half a shade before dark brown, and no matter what I've done to it beforehand (whether it's just dye or it's been bleached) without fail my hair turns several shades of orange with blonde roots.

And when I dye it again after using colour B4, it goes dark brown no matter shade I use. I used it last week, having previously bleached my hair, then dyed it red and subsequently dark brown over the top of the red. I colour B4'd it and it went a kind of orangey light brown so I left it a week before using a semi permanent light brown shade on it to try and even it up. It's now almost black. I do not recommend it.

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 24/02/2021 16:40

I’ve used it a couple of times. Some more successful than others!

I dye my salt and pepper hair black, The colour B4 lifts the black near the roots, to show my grey and some light blonde/brown tones (where the permanent dye has lightened my natural dark brown) but as the lengths go down they remain darker due to being coloured so many more times.

I had it lifted at a proper hairdressers during the lull in lockdown last year. Took ages and several appointments, which would have cost me hundreds if she weren’t a friend of mine, but the result is really cared for golden hair rather than the mish mash of colours I got from doing it myself!

CarpetDiem · 24/02/2021 20:22

Did you do it? Pics please- quite fancy doing it myself Smile
