Dry skin help!

jellybe · 23/02/2021 09:16

I have very dry skin and it is just getting worse. Around my nose is particularly bad and red and patchy. I exfoliate, tone, moisturise religiously and am trying to drink a few pints of water a day but nothing seems to be working. I also think wearing a mask for most of the day (healthcare student) isn't helping.

Any advice/ tips/ vitamins/ supplements people find have helped?!

Tia.

I had very dry skin fir years and 4 yrs ago i started putting coconut oil on it, then my regular moisturiser. Works a treat!

Ooo will have to give that a go. Thank you.

The exfoliation and toning might be contributing to the dryness, my dry skin can no longer tolerate most exfoliators or toners, or indeed most cleansers! You could try using just a gentle cleanser and a moisturiser for a while without the other products to see if it makes a difference

Lostinwinter · 23/02/2021 13:49

Are you using products that are the right pH for your skin?

How do I work that out?

Good idea. It is meant to be for sensitive dry skin but even that might be to much for it now.

Came on to say coconut oil. I walk outside A LOT literally hours a day. I was worried my face would get weather beaten but I put coconut oil on every morning and still ok. I top it off with my usual foundation to sort of seal it. I look a little shiny for the first half hour or so but then it sinks in and all good.

jellybe · 23/02/2021 14:13

Those of you who use coconut oil is there a specific one you'd recommend?

i have dry skin, but it has become more combination since i hit my mid 40s. I've struggled to get it under control over the last couple of years, but I've realised that Estee Lauder advanced night repair serum and Estee Lauder Day Wear moisturiser are what my skin needs. If you were going to go for one of those, I'd really recommend the ANR (you can get 7ml GWP bottles, or 1.5ml sachets on ebay to try).

jellybe · 23/02/2021 14:23

Thanks @WellTidy will have a look at those.

If it's dry and sore Eucerin Aquafor might help. Really thick but soothing. It sorted out the dry skin around my mouth and eyes.

I just bought a jar of coconut oil from my local health food shop. It wasn't expensive and I've had it for years now!

Notanotherhun · 23/02/2021 16:16

Cetraben. About a tenner for 970ml from all good pharmacies.

Have you tried Aveeno? My forehead feels like sawdust, it's so dry, and that's the best thing I've tried. I put it on at night and morning and it keeps skin smooth throughout Aveeno

MrsDThomas · 23/02/2021 16:21

I buy mine from Home Bargains for £3.99. Last about a year.

I use Superdrug Naturally Radiant Glycolic toner. Suits my skin and easy on the purse . £6.99 i think for a large bottle and usually on offer.

Oh and they have a great range of acids. I use a Hyaluronic one 3-4 times a week at night. Not in the morning as my makeup slides off.

This is great. Thank you everyone. I'm off to look at all these things.
