Is there anything like a Mason-Pearson hairbrush?

I've had a Mason Pearson hairbrush since I was a kid - was a special birthday present as so expensive. I still have it, and it's definitely the best hairbrush ever. Mixed bristle & nylon. Never tugs or hurts, definitely no wincing or tears when using on long, tangled hair.

I want to get one for my daughters but I just saw the prices, which are truly hair-raising Shock (sorry, bad pun).

Are there any brands out there that do the same kind of brush, that are anywhere near as good? I

I love my MP brushes and they are so much better than any other brush I have tried. I have the mixed bristle in the handbag and the large size. I bought the handbag one first to try it out because they are so expensive. Sign up to www.escentual.com. They sell MP brushes and regularly have 25-30% offers off the whole site. I bought my large one from Escentual a few years ago during one of the offers.

I have three M&P brushes (two large, one smaller) and I have no idea how old they are because they just keep on going and going and going; the colour wears off the handle before the bristles wear out! But I must say, I've never noticed a particular noise when using it ...

What's the difference between mixed bristle and pure bristle? Are they good for different types of hair or is it more of a price thing? I might go for a handbag one first and see how I get on.

@Housewife2010 thanks for the Escentual tip. Will hold out for a sale!

The different bristle types are suited for different hair types. If you go on that MP site there is information on the different bristles and sizes.

You. Can’t beat a M&P. Mine must be 30 years old. I bought my daughter one when she was little and that was 10 years ago. Cost per use etc

I have a Denman going strong for a good 11 years now.

Right so for anyone who bought a brush for a child/baby to use forever... how did you know which bristles to go for if their hair was just baby hair?

Constancevariable · 24/02/2021 19:39

I bought the Kent version and have been really pleased with it, it was definitely cheaper (I remember looking at M&P at the time)...i

£24 - £36 depending on the size you choose, a snip by comparison to the M&P one

I brought one each for each of my children and they are just as good 10 years on - even after daily brushing. Well worth the price.
