Next - how do they get away with this?

Am I going mad? Do they really charge 3.99 for delivery (no matter how much you spend) AND charge for returns?! Is this right? £3.99 for delivery and then another £2.00 for me to return an item? And the return collection is any time between 8am and 6pm, so I have to wait in all day for the privilege?

I’m utterly shocked at this system and amazed that anyone would shop like this. (We don’t live anywhere near a Next store btw).

Are they aware that most other retailers offer free delivery AND free returns, or at worst only charge for one?

Also, one of the items I ordered was faulty! The leg holes on the dungarees were so small that DD couldn’t even get them on (she is totally normal sized with smallish feet and the dungarees themselves looked the right size).

Does anyone actually do this?

Baffled.

@DietrichandDiMaggio sorry no link. I received an email including the offer. I then searched next unlimited on the site and added to basket. It’s goes in as £20 but then you get a £10 credit

It used to be £1 for returns until recently, but I have never ever been charged for a return collected by Hermes, and I buy and return a lot from Next!

I've just double checked my statements and I haven't been charged for any returns (I use their courier service to pick up from my home). I do pay for the unlimited deliveries so not sure if this is why?

@Guidebutton

I don't know. When it's "free" you pay for it somewhere. At least this way you know what it will cost and you have control over the number of returns you pay for. When there's no extra charge, you're paying a share of the cost of all the serial returners. Charging for returns must limit that too, so reduces costs all round.

The ones I don't like are where you have to pay postage for returns so you don't know in advance what it will cost.

I believe though, unless it's changed recently, that Next only charge if you return your whole order?

The problem I have with this is that the clothes don’t even seem good value. They’re cheaply made. Someone’s making a fortune somewhere.

@doadeer

Home collection by a courier is a premium returns option that's why there is a charge.
And yet they make this seem like the only (and easiest) option. I asked her on the phone if I could drop it off anywhere instead and she said I could leave it in a safe place for the courier! No mention of a drop off point.

She did offer me the yearly pass, but as I won’t be repeating this experience there’s no way I’d do that.

Lots of stores have different return options also.

Next delivery for £10 is such good value.

CaffineismyBFF · 23/02/2021 07:41

Free delivery to store. They have click and collect points at the moment and drop off returns in a big crate so you don't have to line up. If you're popping out to do a hermes / royal mail return you could just go to store and it'll be quicker to have your credit back.

CaffineismyBFF · 23/02/2021 07:43

Also in case you didn't know, if you pay for goods through PayPal and need to send back for whatever reason; they refund the cost of return postage. not useful in this instance but maybe something you can use going forward
