Anyone else found that hairspray doesn't work on them?

Sometimes my hair looks quite nice after it's been brushed and if I could just get it to stay that way for the rest of the day I'd be delighted but the obvious solution - hairspray - just doesn't seem to work. Particularly on my fringe. I feel like I use tons but it doesn't seem to do anything. I've used L'oreal Elnett- both the normal and superhold ones but they don't seem to do anything. I have fairly average hair - dry at the ends but gets greasy easily at the roots so don't feel I'm an odd case. Any ideas?

Hairspray doesn’t have a big effect on my hair. I’ve got masses of hair but it’s fine and straight. I think maybe it depends on the kind of hair you have.

Yep I’ve got lots of fine straight hair that gets greasy roots quickly. The hairdresser tactfully called it strong hair. Hairspray doesn’t work much on me. Most product seems to make it go limp and lose it’s bounce. It’s definitely a type. I’ve given up with attempting curling for the most part and generally embrace it straight. Going for the glossy straight hair look.

The only thing that has ever held my hair in place is this. I’ve used it for years as every other spray from the cheapest to the most expensive nave about as much holding power as water for me.

carycy hairdressers have described my hair as ‘strong’ too. It basically doesn’t curl. Embracing straightness is the best approach, and styling products have little impact on mine. Will be watching this thread with interest though!

Troy town, the one thing we do tend to have in our favor is our hair tends to be in good condition and shiny. And wearing it straight shows that off beautifully.

adhdisabastard · 21/02/2021 16:48

Interesting TroyTown - I also have masses of hair that's fine and straight. Didn't think hairspray was something that couldn't work until it didn't work on me but if there are many of us then I guess I'm wrong. How frustrating! I'll give Fromthegekko's suggestion a try before I give up entirely though.

Interesting. Hairspray has never done anything for me. I, too, have fine hair that is straighter than the straightest thing you can think of.

zeddybrek · 21/02/2021 18:26

Same here. Masses of very fine poker straight hair that doesn't want to do much else, and hates hairspray.

I hope the John Frieda helps adhdisabastard. It’s not the most expensive thing in the world if its no good. My hair is very thin, fine, brittle and poker straight and it’s the only spray that’s kept mine in place. Good luck.

PerfidiousAlbion · 21/02/2021 19:09

Same here. Masses of fine poker straight hair.

I use the same John Frieda spray (the whole volume range is great) but I also rate the 'umbrella shield' sprays too.

adhdisabastard · 22/02/2021 01:18

I'll check out umbrella shield if the John Frieda doesn't work!

I also have masses of fine, straight hair and it's too slippery to hold a curl or a style - unless I use mousse, when it's a lot more amenable. Maybe try just mousse, or mousse and hairspray and see if it hangs on a bit better?
