Exfoliator reccomendations

Hi all
Do you use an exfoliator as part of your daily skin care or is it a weekly thing
Also have you got any reccomendations for a nice one that's not to harsh. I used a Johnson and Johnson daily face wash scrub the other night ( belongs to one of my teenage dc) and it made my skin really sore!

I exfoliate if I have worn make up, so at the moment maybe only once a week. I use a Clarisonic brush with a face wash as the final step of my cleansing routine. If it’s on charge I use an exfoliating product, normally Alpha H Micro Cleanse.

I also use an acid toner at night which I think also exfoliates, either Pixi Glow Tonic or Alpa H Liquid Gold. Something like that would be less harsh than a manual, physical exfoliator.

Physical exfoliation can damage your skin so choose something gentle if you must!

It’s much better for your skin to use chemical exfoliation instead - with acids. Depending on your skin concerns - AHA (like glycolic) are good for brightening and skin texture and BHA (like salicylic) are good for skin that is congested.

Oh and use a flannel when you wash your face!

I use a chemical exfoliator rather than a physical - physical exfoliation (especially Clarisonic!) is really bad for your skin. It causes micro-tears and abrasions.

Paula’s Choice is a good place to start. Pixi are also good if you’ve never used a chemical exfoliant before.

Yes definitely avoid scrubs of any kind!
I’d recommend Pixi glow tonic as one to try. It works really well for me - perfect skin ever since I started using it. I would recommend cleansing using a balm and hot cloth too. I love Emma Hardie cleansing balm but body shop do a cheaper alternative camomile balm that’s raved about.

I use salicylic acid a few times a week and as a spot treatment.

I do keep a pot of something gritty from lush for when I feel like I need a scrub (like after cooking something greasy for eg) but I use it only sporadically.

Its pricy but i highly recommend the Huda Wishful enzyme scrub. It has the weirdest consistency and people say you can feel the dead skin cells rub off. Im not sure if that's true or it's just the product balling up but if i use it more than once a week i certainly see less of the balling? I don't make it sound like the nicest of products but i promise ita great.

I use this a couple of times a week, it is very moisturising and soft on my skin. Lasts for ages! It is on offer here at the moment www.thefragranceshop.co.uk/caudalie/caudalie/caudalie-gentle-buffing-cream-75ml/p/33724

Thanks everyone for all your fab suggestions 😍 I was thinking of buying the body shop calomine balm already as part of my cleansing routines so I will get this xx

Oooh scrubs are very harsh.

I'd do a chemical exfoliate

AHA exfoliate = brightening
BHA exfoliate = decongesting for breakouts

My routine is (cleanse then...)
Day 1 Retinol
Day 2 acid - I use zelens pads or Paula's Choice
Day 3 nourishing or brightening mask

Followed by serum, few drops oil, moisturise

But I have dry skin just to note
