DD9 spots around nose

Sorry, not sure which topic to post in, but I'm after some advice for my DD9 who started puberty around a year ago. She has lots of tiny spots around both nostrils, and occasionally on her cheeks.

It's mainly around the nose though, I'm wondering if anyone has any advice for what she can use to help clear these up? She's getting more conscious of these, and picks at them til they bleed :(

Worried about scarring and she's getting upset, but many products are not suitable for children. Should I take her to the GP when they are taking face to face appointments?

If it's definitely hormonal and muck, then try something like Effaclar first.
GP can prescribe benzoyl peroxide or a proper acne treatment but if she hasn't got that then a salicylic acid treatment like Effaclar might help. It transformed my dd's skin.

Thanks, is it suitable for children @StepOutOfLine?

My DD used it from the age of about 11. It's not terribly harsh, and when she started getting that pre-teen oily skin it really helped.

@StepOutOfLine Thanks, will give it a go and try the GP if it doesn't settle :)

This one really helps me, including hormonal spots and the tiny annoying ones on my forehead. I still get occasional spots but far rarer. superfacialist.co.uk/product/purifying-cleansing-wash/#

@Binglebong Thank you

I would start with something really gentle. My DD had the same problem and we found that just cleansing with some La Roche Posay Serozinc is enough to sort it out. If she ever gets a more noticeable spot she dabs on some LRP Effaclar.

Maybe have a look at the brand Elizabeth's Daughter.

Thanks everyone; it seems that the La Roche Posay stuff might be best for her, I might just contact them to see what age they recommend and what would be most appropriate? I have horrible acne scarring and anything to help avoid that for DD would be wonderful.

Just a quick question. The La Roche Posay Effaclar is always recommended on threads here, but which product, there are loads!

WhereAreWeNow · 20/02/2021 19:51

@CoolKitkat I would start with Serozinc. It's really gentle with no acids or any other harsh ingredients. Like you, I had bad acne and bear the scars so I'm very keen to help my daughter avoid the same fate!
@OddsNSodsBitsNBobs it depends what you're after. I've been using the range for years. My favourite products are:
The face wash (there are 2 but there's not much difference IMO)
The clay face mask
Effaclar Duo (the original, not the tinted one or the one with SPF)

OddsNSodsBitsNBobs · 20/02/2021 19:53

@WhereWeAreNow, thanks! It's for my teens, basically a daily cleanser/tonic and a topical solution.

WhereAreWeNow · 20/02/2021 20:28

@OddsNSodsBitsNBobs in that case I'd go for either the face wash or the micellar water, depending on what they prefer. Then Effaclar Duo as a moisturiser/preventative treatment. And there's one called Effaclar AI I think which is a more targeted spot cream to dab on any big spots or breakouts.

It's really very good. To be honest, all the French pharmacy brands do good products for acne and sensitive skin - Vichy, Bioderma, Avene - but I always come back to LRP. Look out for 3 for 2 offers in Boots.

I just wish it had been around when I was a spotty and miserable teenager!

StepOutOfLine · 20/02/2021 20:53

I agree. I'm aged and dry Grin and Toleriane and Riche are my go-to creams, along with the vit C and redermic.

DD used the Effaclar duo (original) and added in the facial wash later. She now actually uses Cerave facial wash.
