Curly girl method

Has anybody done this before? I've decided to take the plunge but have no idea where to start. My hair is currently wavey with some loose ringlets if I leave to dry naturally.

Any recommendations for final wash products?
Any recommendations for any other products?

Thank you!

The main thing I'll say is don't over complicate it. You don't need a final wash. Just start co-washing and using cg friendly products.

I co-wash (scrub my hair clean with conditioner) once a week, rinse then apply a tiny bit of curl cream and some gel to soaking wet hair, still in the shower. When i get out, I remove excess water by scrunching gently with a sports towel.

Applying the products to soaking wet hair was an absolute game changer for me - it really does seem to trap the moisture into my hair and give amazing curls.

Join a curly girl group on facebook for hints and tips and you'll find recommendations from other people with similar hair to you.

What i would say is you shouldn't need much - it doesn't have to be complicated so you can get away with a 99p alberto balsam conditioner from home bargains and a gel like one from asiam, boucleme or the blue LA Looks gel from amazon which is good value.

Personally, I find the CurlFlo products to be amazing and have now switched from Boucleme. They smell fabulous and i get zero build up on my hair with them, even after a week my hair still feels light and fresh.

But don't be put off by all the talk of multiple products and masks and rinses and the likes. Just get a smooth towel, a conditioner and a gel.

Good luck!

That's interesting curlytops! I've been 'nopoo' for years now, but am wondering about adding in the odd product to give my hair some 'finish'.

I wash it weekly with natural stuff- conkers, oats, henna, egg, according to my mood.

My hair is then squeaky clean but a bit fuzzy at the ends. Three days later and I have lovely sleek waves for the rest of the week.

I'd like it softer and more define wave/curl from day one. Any ideas?

So is it just conditioner and no shampoo?

Thank you, will have a look at fb groups and the products you have suggested Smile

Avoiding silicones and sulphates as well, OP.

If your hair is wavy, it's probably better not to co-wash but to use a gentle sulphate free cleanser. I'm currently rotating between a shea moisture shampoo, a bottle of cantu and some avalon organics tea tree shampoo because my scalp can be awful, sometimes.

There are a few really helpful groups on Facebook if you search curly girl method, with "approved" products in the albums to save you checking each time.

DP has been doing the CG method for several years.
(He has below shoulder length 3B type curls.)

Some people seem to go for quite a complicated CG method but DP has worked out a very simple method that works for his hair.

He uses this as I am cowash
Then scrunches this alcohol free hair gel from Morrisons into his wet hair.
And then wraps it in a cotton turban towel for 15 minutes to absorb most of the water.
He then lets it air dry and has perfect ringlets for days.

He pineapples it on a night with a silk scrunchie.

I was absolutely bamboozled by curly girl influencers and their 400 step washes!

As above. Microfiber towel a must.

Co wash using a CG approved conditioner (I like garner hair food tubs) and every 3rd wash the as I am Co wash.

Rinse.

Add a bit more of hair food conditioner to wet hair. Brush with a denman brush. Add a gel. Boots basic purple 99p one. Scrunch.
Wrap in the microfiber towel for a liitle while.

Also a silk pillow or silk turban for sleeping.

I gave spent £££ on posh curly hair products and the basic ones were the best for me!

I think I might stick with my current washes, but add some suitable product as described. Thank you!

Personally, yes i would squelch a tiny bit of conditioner as a leave in /curl cream, predominantly on the ends, and add some gel. The gel on soaking wet hair was a game changer for me so it may well work for you too. Worth a go anyway!
