Do these swimsuits exist in the UK?

MNers of old will know that I'm not allowed to post in the hallowed halls of S&B and, to be fair, it's about to become patently obvious why.

We are supposed to be going on a big family holiday later this year (in the UK) and there's a chance it might happen. There's a pool where we are staying and custom dictates I can't wear dungarees whilst in it. I last bought swimwear over a decade ago (shorts and a tankini thing) and I'm a different shape entirely and it's all a bit threadbare now tbh. I do have an Adidas triathlon training suit which is for use in water too but I'm going on holiday, not partaking in a sporting event. I thought I'd idly browse for something I'll feel comfortable in and found the perfect suggestions (attached). But they're from Shein and it looks like they're poorly reviewed and based in China (two no nos).

So I've tried to find a UK alternative. I've found the following:

Boden sort of have an option in rash vests and shorts but they're cut so that they'll emphasise the peculiar ravages of my two EMCS. The shorts would be a perfect shelf for The Overhang That Will Not Go.

Surfwear seems promising but options are either eye-wateringly expensive or wetsuits rather than swimsuits.

Search results are dominated by "modesty" wear for cultural and religious reasons. I just want to be slightly covered up and feel comfortable.

There are weird swimming dress/skirt things. No. All the nos.

I can't wear a one piece costume or a bikini. I need legs on my swimsuit and would prefer arms but they're not essential. I burn very, very easily and so being covered up across my shoulders is important but from a fucked up body image point of view, it needs leg coverage.

Like I said, I have a plain black, sporty Adidas suit with legs but wanted something vaguely colourful or patterned that is for messing about in an inflatable ring as opposed to doing laps of the Loch.

Does it exist? A pretty ish swimsuit with legs, maybe arms and all in one? Without remortgaging?

I've had heaps of things from SHEIN and love them. Always check the size on every item tho as they can vary

Labobo · 18/02/2021 18:15

I've had good experiences from Shein too. Arrived on time, true to size (I expected them to be teensy but they weren't.)

ShowOfHands · 18/02/2021 18:17

I really don't like to buy from abroad and some of the reviews are utterly scathing.

Teen DD says that many of her peers love Shein too. I had a nosy at their marketing stuff and they're for 18-35yr olds apparently. Gits. I quite like a lot of their stuff which regularly pops up on FB.

I've seen a short wetsuit in the big Sainsbury's near me recently. Have a look on the Tu site.

Ffsffsffsffsffs · 18/02/2021 18:18

Please check that you'd be allowed to wear something like that where you're going - we went to France a few years ago and dp & ds had to make emergency trips to the supermarket as swim shorts were not allowed (yes, really, it's a nationwide law, speedos all round)

Crockof · 18/02/2021 18:21

I know you said no to the skirt, and I do feel a bit like a hippo in a tutu but they hide a multitude of sins

BigSkyLife · 18/02/2021 18:29

Excuse the long clicks link, but some of these look amazing!

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 18/02/2021 18:30

Take a look at decathlon. Dd had a swimsuit that was an all in one but had short style kegs rather than a more knicker type cut.

I've seen people caught out in Ireland too!

We aren't leaving England.

I will check out Decathlon but last time I looked, it was mostly the sporty, functional stuff. I'm after something frivolous and not designed for triathlons (not that I mind this, am doing a triathlon later this year!).

They do indeed. Will check out Tu as well. Thank you @OutingMyself

Its not a great time of year for looking for them, but this is my specialist subject Grin as I love swimming outside, but developed a sun allergy last year which is a total PITA

This Deakin and Blue costume has sleeves, and their stuff is amazingly hard wearing and very flattering

Finisterre had a long sleeved swimming costume to go with these leggings last summer, so hopefully they will restock for this summer

BlackFish have leggings and tops. I have the halterneck with legs for pool swimming and its lovely quality

Lands End esp the US site who ship free to the UK have a really good selection of leggings, shorts, nice UV tops. I've just bought a rash vest from the UK one in the sale
Decathlon have these leggings which I have in the black/white with the matching top. I meant to get this costume with sleeves before it sold out.
For just legs, I have a Maru costume like this and like it

LegArmpits · 18/02/2021 18:42

I've definitely bought midi legged swimming costume from Sports Direct more than once, gives good coverage around the arse area and beyond 😂

They didn't have arms though.

chocolateshreddies · 18/02/2021 18:43

I bought a Boden rash vest last year and loved it. I wore it with a swimsuit or bikini as the shorts wouldn't suit me either. Can you look for higher fit shorts/bikini bottoms to wear with the vest?

BikeRunSki · 18/02/2021 18:43

Decathlon knee suit with a rash vest on top ?

Land's End Rash Vests
Land's End board shorts
Land's End long board shorts

CMOTDibbler · 18/02/2021 18:43

And I know you said not looking like you are going to do a triathlon, but the Stolen Goat tri suits are bright and lovely - I have this one

BikeRunSki · 18/02/2021 18:45

The Speedo thing in France is to make sure that all genitalia stays tucked away out of sight. Loose shorts can provide a bit of a "tunnel vision" view of said genitalia, if there are no inbuilt pants.

mootymoo · 18/02/2021 18:46

I have a rash vest from sports direct that I wear over my one piece from fig leaves. I have a full length wetsuit as well for British waters

GrumpyHoonMain · 18/02/2021 18:59

Lyra swimwear is what alot of the Indian women I know use. Specifically the alayna / naila because they carry nicely from beach to evening.

GrumpyHoonMain · 18/02/2021 18:59

You can get some styles with cropped legs

ShowOfHands · 18/02/2021 19:01

Some brilliant suggestions here.

I wish I could afford Stolen Goat stuff. Love them.

I really like some of the leggings in particular.

I'm feeling rather hopeful after all!

I swim quite often in running leggings in the river after a run. Bonus is they have pockets and both euro notes and hotel key cards are waterproof! They probably wouldn't survive chlorine though, so I wouldn't go in a pool in expensive ones

‘Spring suit’ is the magic phrase to google...
