Grey dye?

I would like a bit of advice from anyone who might have done this!
I'm growing out my brown/highlighted dye. Could I put a grey box dye over the top that would cover the blondey highlights and blend my roots or would I go green ( or blue maybe!)

Grey dye?

You're more likely to have a slight blue tint in certain lights with grey dye, although I've only ever used direct dye like Manic Panic/Artic Fox in that kind of colour, rather than box dye.

I don’t think it would work - maybe put a semi permanent brown on until the hairdressers are open?

They’ll help you figure out the best way of working your grey

I don't think it works because the brown is too dark. You need to put grey on light or bleached hair. Most people in your position try to get some of the existing dye out. That leaves a blorange colour which they tone with wash in wash out colour until the grey is long enough to look intentional. It's a hard phase. Have you joined some FB groups for transitioning to grey? Lots of advice on products, support and advice on there. It was the best thing I've done with my hair and I wish I'd done it sooner. But I'm not lying - the transition year was very hard.

Thanks,I have joined some Facebook groups ( and offended one by asking about dyeing my hair as they are strictly dye free apparently!) the highlights are quite blonde so that's why I thought a grey might just cover those?
It's nice to hear from someone who thinks it's a good idea- my family are not on board!
