Ethical trainers

I used to always try to buy clothes where the workers were treated fairly, or second hand. I've not been so consistent lately, but the Dubai thread has pricked my conscience.
I need really supportive running shoes. I've developed plantar fascitis so I can't run til I get new trainers.
I'm not fussed about the materials, but it needs to be non exploitative.
I'm a women's 8 but happy to try a men's 7.5. I want to spend max £80.
Is this possible, and where should I be looking?
Thanks

Have a look at Ecco 😊 great brand in terms of treating workers well and what they do to minimise their impact on the environment 😊 their Biom range would be excellent for you in terms of your foot problem. At full price they’re definitely over your budget but you can quite often get fab deals on past season colours etc online. I work in an independent shoe shop that sells a variety of brands so if you want more info on Ecco I’m happy to help 😊

New Balance have a range made in the UK. They are over your budget, though you may find them in the sale.

More brands to consider

@ZaraW new balance in the sale it was. I was particularly excited that the website let me choose by size, I hate trawling through then discovering that I can't get something in my size.

@Squish3 I wasn't sure that the ECCO ones were suitable as serious running shoes (but that might be my prejudice) - but now I've been reminded they exist I'll consider them for shoes. I've had to start wearing shoes in the house as slippers 15 hours a day won't cut it.

@Love51 Not all will be suitable for running but some definitely are 😊 They also do “barefoot” running shoes if that’s you’re thing 😊

They’re just an all round good brand really 👍🏻 Lots of good everyday shoes and boots too!

Allbirds? I think they are pretty ethical as well as being made from recycled materials

savvy7 · 17/02/2021 22:06

Only a small selection of New Balance trainers are made in the UK and this is reflected in the price

Love51 · 17/02/2021 22:34

I used to assume that barefoot running shoes were a bit emperor's New clothes, but you can't run in actual bare feet unless you live by the beach! I think I currently need lots of foot support and the barefoot ones would be the opposite.
I don't mind if the trainers aren't British, I'd just like them to be made by someone who has employment rights and days off and can afford to feed and clothe their kids. Not in modern slavery conditions.
I'm always surprised when sports stars promote brands with a dodgy record on human rights.

Try Veja

Love51 · 17/02/2021 22:45

I've ordered some new balance but if I don't like the fit when I collect them I'll look at some of the other ideas. Thanks everyone!
