Milkshake hair colour, what and how to swap

Any hairdressers around? I’ve had my greying/ mid brown hair dyed at a milkshake salon for about 3 years and love the colour ( light blonde) thing is, it takes nearly 3 hours and needs doing every 6 weeks in normal times. My hairdresser mixes a potion of 4 things and says it’s “ hi lift”
They are unwilling to disclose the ratio and names of products and I’ve got to the point now that I would like to stop going and maybe find a mobile hairdresser or even do it myself ( husband is happy to help)
It’s is good condition and shoulder length. I don’t really want to chop it all off and start again.
Can you just use a box dye it’s an k stick on the milkshake treadmill?
Any advice greatly received

They do a root spray which might help short term for hiding roots?

I have to say though (and i don't say it to be mean) that your ends don't look in too good a condition so perhaps it would be a good time to have a trim and step away from the bleach?

Maybe when the hairdressers open up go for a darker blonde closer to your natural colour with a few highlights, which are lower maintenance and will allow you to grow out your roots for longer, which will also blur the greys?

I agree about trying a darker blonde. I had my hair a similar colour to the one in your pic and my ends were completely frazzled.

I was scared to go darker (because I have issues) but I trimmed my ends myself and bought a box dye medium ash blonde colour and my hair is looking better than it has in a long time.

Thanks, I’ll get a spray for now
Yes my roots are definitely overdue for a trim, that’s something I’m leaving til they open as I don’t trust my husband to do that!
I think going slightly darker is a good idea so I’ll bear that in mind.

Yes i was all over bleach years ago but went down to ashy blonde with dark under-dye and blended dark roots and it's so much gentler on the hair. I can leave it weeks without attending to it. Like this.

Is hilift another name for bleach?
That hair looks lovely Laiste, don’t think mine would be so beautiful. I’m 64 though so maybe I should be adapting to the inevitable colour change!

Your hair does look a little yellow toned from that pic, I’ve always found milkshake colours more on the warm side.
I wouldn’t recommend doing it yourself but in response to your post if she’s said it’s high lift then this is not bleach powder and usually used on virgin hair only to lighten hair and used with a higher peroxide.
I’m in agreement a few shades darker would look lovely

Knittingnanny · 16/02/2021 21:51

Fly girl, so nothing I could do at home will cover hi lift?

Flygirl94 · 16/02/2021 22:16

You can cover it yes, but if you’re wanting to use highlift that’s only to be used on your roots, the virgin hair.

Flygirl94 · 16/02/2021 22:18

Be wary of putting any ashy browns on top of the blonde yourself. Without a gold filler it could turn khaki

Knittingnanny · 16/02/2021 22:49

Thank you
I think I’d better wait until the hairdressers reopen and leave it to the experts. I tried the L’Oréal root spray in lockdown 1 but even light blonde was darker and just went clumpy but I’ll try the milkshake one recommended earlier
