Bikini wax

I tried my first at home bikini wax today using nair divine wax and oh my god!

The tubs nearly empty and I'm left with an utter hack job.

Does anyone have any waxes they would recommend? Preferably available at Boots / Superdrug so I can get one straight away.

Failing that any application tips? I'm hoping to finish the job tomorrow.

In other news I CANNOT WAIT for salons to open Grin

OMG...don't ever do it at home! I have just resorted back to using the razor despite hating it. So sorry can't recommend anything except to resort to a razor.

My beautician persuaded me years ago to have a professional wax and warned me not to DIY it (not sure why she thinks I would given that she knows me). Like you I can't wait to get back to my normal grooming regime

Oh no this is so depressing 😭 I've tried hair removal cream but it's no better than shaving!

Honestly will never begrudge paying £30+ a wax ever again Grin

I have the boots own warm waxing kit and have to say it's great - heat the pot in the microwave and it comes with washable/reusable strips .......BUT I did have mine done by a "proper" Brazilian lady (as in a woman from Brazil 🤣) for years and picked up a few tips about how to do it without removing a layer of skin and dignity.

www.boots.com/boots-smooth-care-warm-wax-kit

Top tips

Wax needs to be on the hotter side and stay hot. I fill sink with hot water and sit pot it in it to keep it warm and runny.

DO NOT put too much wax on the applicator - LESS is definitely more - it's got to be applied very thinly and only do small areas at a time
Press the strips on in the direction of the hair and then pull off in one movement against direction of hair.
Apply wax and then strips and then pull off within seconds. If the wax cools too much it becomes too sticky and you'll rip your skin off 😬
Find a position where you can comfortable stretch your skin taught before you pull the strip off

Oh that's interesting! I think in that case I e been applying in the wrong direction, will try again tomorrow!

OP, l note what you said about hair removal cream, but l whip the lot off using Veet Sensitive and instead of using the plastic thingy, coax it with a Venus Raspberry razor.

How long does a full bikini was last please? Never had one, but am thinking of doing it when out of lockdown

BlueSkyAhead · 13/02/2021 11:28

*wax

ivfbeenbusy · 13/02/2021 13:45

@BlueSkyAhead
Usually around 4 - 5 weeks but if you have it done regularly it will last a little longer

Sunflowergirl1 · 13/02/2021 16:23

@BlueSkyAhead

I'm a huge fan of full wax since beautician persuaded me to try instead of bikini line etc. They do last and I've been having for years now but you do have to allow some regrown before the next one.

If you haven't had before then do you have a regular beautician as feeling comfortable and reassured is a big help. The first couple of times I took some soluble pain killers as it hurt a little but I didn't bother now. An experienced beautician will relax you and be so quick it won't hurt ..more an ouch

StarlightLady · 14/02/2021 07:44

@BlueSkyAhead - I have tended to go for once a month. It’s fine, and as PP poster said maybe a pain killer before especially for the first couple occasions. And never go just before a period.

I don’t think l would ever go back to being hairy again. I find it much more comfortable, especially in the warmer weather. You will find the regrowth appears to get finer over time too.

l’m doing a mixed shave and Veet Sensitive job at the moment (just done it 5 mins ago). Sometimes l revert to shaving in non lock down times too because l get fed up with the regrowth between waxes.

The update that nobody asked for Grin

So since I had a little bit of the wax left I thought I'd try again and see if I could improve things...

This time I heated the wax for longer than the instructions said so it was hotter and it worked much better. So with that and the help of some tweezers I have a slightly wonky but passable Brazilian Grin

Now the ordeal is over it doesn't seem so bad and I'm even considering doing it again next month if we're still locked down although I might try a different brand of wax

I'm too scared to try this at home. I CANNOT wait for the salons to open again!
