It's a nice enough dress, I've been looking for navy dress to go under a couple of textured jackets for work and this fits the bill, it's a thin, unlined viscose dress, smart enough for work and comfortable.

I paid £44 though. At £149 it would have been extortionate. Presumably that's why they have it still in the sale, do these companies ever expect to sell at full price?

Seeing the sales I really do wonder too, shops like Whistles expect to only see a proportion at full price. 65 quid for basically a tshirt in some cases. I try to think would I but it not in the sale? Do I love it? Can I afford it?

Buy it

I suppose it depends what type of work you do. A cotton dress would be fine for my work but so would ripped jeans or a sequin jumpsuit and feather boa.
I completely agree it’s not worth the full price. I don’t know how Whistles get away with their dreadful fabrics and high prices but they seem to. They’ll be making a profit on the sale price I imagine.

The fabrics some higher end companies use really astounds me.

All Saints, for example. £50 for a polyester top.

I quite like it - very officey, but in a nice way, and it looks comfy to wear unlike the dreaded shift dress. I expect it just didn't sell because probably there's less than a tenth of the normal number of women going into offices who would wear that level of dressiness.

I have loads of viscose work dresses, and they do shrink slightly in the wash but when you iron them they stretch out again.

I think it's a really nice dress...no way would I pay £149 for it though.
