Is Creme De La Mer worth the money?

I'm early 40s and have dry skin. Considering buying Creme De La Mer moisturising cream (not the soft cream, the original one) but it's pricey. £240 for 60ml! Has anyone's skin really improved while using it?

No it's not worth it. It made no discernible difference to my skin. Look at the ingredients list. There's nothing special in it. Read nadine baggots recommendations for dry skin instead.

I can't remember who maybe but one of the beauty experts (i think Trinny) recommended Aldi's lacura caviar cream as a dupe for la mer and just as good.

OtterInDisgrace · 10/02/2021 06:25

I’ve used it. It and it lasted a while because it’s so rich but it made no difference to my skin whatsoever.

A product constructed entirely from Pomp and Circumstance.

No.

It's moisturizer.

Moisturizer and cleanser are where you don't need to spend. Serums, and other treatments, yes (if you want to, and have the budget-but for every £100 serum, there will be an equivalent high street one with EXACTLY the same Ingredients for about a tenner. Box won't be as fancy but you don't wear the box!)

It was pointed out when CdlM first came out, that it's one ingredient short of being Atrixo hand cream. Of course that one ingredient is some lovingly nurtured and cossetted seashell or something Grin, but is it going to make a 50 year old look 20? Nope.

Ingredients are key.

You'd be better buying Elemis Pro Collagen marine cream. Changed my skin dramatically which Cdlm didn't.

I second Nadine Baggott. Very down to earth and gives great info on ingredients.

Best cream for ultra dry skin for me is Weleda Skin Food for when blue Nivea doesn't cut it.

StepOutOfLine · 10/02/2021 06:37

I quite like Elemis pro collagen but it's no good for really dry skin- even the intense. I do buy it as a day cream sometimes vwhen there are mega offers because I love the smell!

I'm slightly older than you but got some good advice on this thread:

I don't think so.

I'd look at your whole routine not just moisturiser. I agree with above, better to spend on products with active jncredients and any moisturiser. By the end of my routine my skin is well moisturised I'm just locking in the moisture as the final step.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 10/02/2021 06:53

No, the fact it comes in a plastic pot and has almost the same ingredients as Nivea hardly makes it feel luxurious either.

I've discovered that my very dry skin is actually better with cheaper skincare, Aldi Lacura is snacking as is the Superdrug Naturally Radiant range. I used to use Elemis marine cream but get on better with the pocket money brands, except Guerlain watery youth oil, that's nice and worth the extra.
