It's the knees for me.

Every pair of mine goes at the knees. I do spend a lot of time on the floor playing (reluctantly) with Lego and playmobil.

A hole in the crotch? I didn't know that was a thing. Do you ride a bike? That could cause wear and tear.

Also have the proportion problem with getting them to fit over wide hips but then not gape at smaller waist.

Never had crotch issues but mine go at the knees.
