Has anyone actually tried these magic trousers?

So I am looking for some everyday trousers, not jeans, to wear to work (physically active, non office based but need to look reasonably pulled together).

What I want is straight legged or skinny but not too tight, lots of stretch, able to accomodate a size 18 curvy bum. Also not too expensive.

I've seen these recommended but when I look at them online they look kind of creased and as if they woudln't be all that flattering. Anyone tried them? Any alternatives?

I can’t help you there, but l won’t go for anything with an elasticated waist other than leggings. Plus l won’t buy anything on line where the pictures don’t show a rear view.

I don't think they look "pulled together". Maybe a bit expensive but Boden Richmond are great work trousers and there is usually 20% off somewhere.

Greenvalleysightseeker · 07/02/2021 13:59

I think the 'magic' thing is that they fit any size and shape, but when you see pictures of them they look like a little wrinkled rag. I imagine they'd need some serious ironing before being suitable for work.

I would reccommend trying the roll top joggers at Sainsburys, they are thick and stretchy and well made. They look like trousers but have the most comfortable roll top which holds everything in. I adore them, they look smart but are so nice to wear.

I have several of these in black, they are extremely comfortable and fit well. I would not want to be without them.

I can't see how one size fits all trousers could possibly be flattering on anyone.

Boden Hampshire ponte trousers are stretchy. Like the Richmonds, however, they're a little pricey.

SusieSusieSoo · 07/02/2021 14:09

I have these "magic pants" they are much more flattering than leggings but if there was more in my life than working from home, school run, walks to the muddy puddle/local woods/public footpaths and the occasional nip to the local next to click & collect (all of which is done with my big joules winter coat which is halfway to my knees) then I don't imagine I would really have much call for them. Absolutely wouldn't wear them in an office. That being said I have worn one pair out in the last year and have 2 more on the go which I alternate. There are 2 little boutiques round here & I reckon half the village is probably wearing them!

I've got a few pairs of magic trousers and they are fab. Extremely comfy, flattering and dress up or down.

Dilbertian · 07/02/2021 14:49

Lands End corduroy jeans might just fit the bill. They have a jeans 'cut' but are obviously not denim. They have a bit of stretch, and neatly accommodate a size 18 bum. (I know Wink) The fabric is tough enough for an active job, and the quality is good enough that the colours do not fade. My only criticism of them is the perennial complaint with women's clothing - poor pockets.

ChampagneCommunist · 07/02/2021 14:55

I have 2 pairs from Raft Clothing & love them!

So comfortable & they have pockets!

tinkywinkyshandbag · 07/02/2021 15:12

Thanks all some options here. I think Sainsbury's is more my price range but the golf ones do look good.

Phase 8 Amina trousers?

FredaFox · 07/02/2021 15:49

Somebody at work is selling them, she keeps on about how comfy they are. I’d worry if at the larger end of the scale they would be clingy in places and baggy for the slim peeps
I wouldn’t see them as smart. More like leggings which I’d never wear

Ginfordinner · 07/02/2021 15:51

They are very comfortable, but are only suitable for the vertcally challenged. I am 5'7" and the legs are just too short. I don't want to wear cropped trousers at this time of year.

I like the look of those golf trousers, but they look too low rise to be comfortable. What is the rise on them @Slackarse?

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 07/02/2021 17:46

I second the Lands' End Starfish Slim Leg, I wear them to the gym but they are also fine as day wear under a tunic.

Uniqlo Leggings Trousers are great, they have stretch in all directions so I don't have to hitch them up every time I bend down, but look like skinny leg trousers not stretchy ones

Slackarse · 07/02/2021 18:36

@Ginfordinner I can’t wear low trousers, and these are perfect. They are a bit expensive, but you can wash them a million times and they stay the same. You can dress them up or down, so they basically work with everything. Nice material.

Slackarse · 07/02/2021 18:39

@Ginfordinner the pockets are good too. They are very comfortable and it just feels like they keep everything in place compared to other materials. 😅

Ginfordinner · 07/02/2021 18:39

Thank you Slack

dreamingofsun · 07/02/2021 18:56

i also like lands end starfish, i wear the leggings

MrsLighthouse · 19/02/2021 15:27

UNIQLO ultra stretch legging trousers . Honestly look like jeans ....pockets, waistband etc ...but stretchy and really comfortable.

kidsflownthenest · 21/02/2022 10:37

Next have been selling 'magic trousers' for Blue Vanilla. I bought a pair in khaki and was so impressed I bought them in navy too. They're fantastic and although I wasn't convinced that trousers that would fit a size 8 would also accommodate my size 14, they absolutely do. The 'magic' is that they're not skin tight, they fit beautifully and are very flattering. I haven't tried other versions. These are half the price of those in Next but maybe worth a punt?
