It's got a life of its own and I need to give it some shape. It all falls forward and I'm a total novice with hairdressing!!
Any basic tips until we can get to a hairdresser??

Sorry no tips but I've got the exact same problem. He desperately needs a cut, it's bothering him at the front. I'm terrified of giving him a wonky mullet...

Minky37 · 05/02/2021 19:50

It’s going to be hard, theres a lot of it and no layers already to assist you to trim.
I think it would be very easy to badly go wrong.

Cornetttttto · 05/02/2021 20:01

Use a trimmer? A number 3 all over?

NisekoWhistler · 05/02/2021 20:06

Have a look at this fab tutorial video on TikTok

bellagogosdead · 05/02/2021 20:08

Grade 3 would be really short!Shock

Bagelsandbrie · 05/02/2021 20:16

This won’t be helpful but I love your toddlers hair! Keep it as it is Grin

Minky37 · 05/02/2021 20:16

Grade 3 would be so short compared to the style and the length on it now.

iMatter · 05/02/2021 20:20

I love it as it is! (Sorry - not helpful)

idontlikealdi · 05/02/2021 20:32

It's lovely. Could you literally put a bowl over the top to use as a cutting guide (super sharp scissors needed). At least keep it out of his eyes until you can get to a hairdresser.

JohnMiddleNameRedactedSwanson · 05/02/2021 21:05

We use a trimmer with a really long guard - I think 15mm.

MoltonSilver · 05/02/2021 21:07

Even without the face that's one cute kid Smile

EmilySpinach · 05/02/2021 21:18

I'd be inclined to try a mini version of a unicorn cut, at least for the front. Gather the fringe in a little ponytail on top of his head and cut into it, not across.

hogu · 05/02/2021 21:36

@idontlikealdi That made me laugh 🙈

@MoltonSilver He is very cute you are right 😍

I do love his hair longer but I feel like it's getting to look like I've already put a bowl on his head 🤣 I just need some shape to it.
I'll have a look at that tiktok and a unicorn thingy

Just checked the Tiktok video but it's clippers, I want to keep my boys hair long just need to give it shape or thin it out in places

iMatter · 05/02/2021 21:46

Don't do clippers

It will be so traumatic for him and the chances of you getting it finished without hysterics are zero.

Tiny fringe trim will be fine.

Don't spoil his gorgeous hair Smile

evouk · 05/02/2021 21:52

Number three all over!?

I'd say until you can get to a Pro just take a tiny bit off the fringe to keep it out of his eyes. We've had to do this with DD a couple of times

CoodleMoodle · 05/02/2021 21:54

Ah, what a cutie. His hair is so much like my DS! He's 2.5 and has the same sort of shaping around his face. It's gorgeous but I understand where you're coming from! (My DD has long long long hair and I don't have time to deal with two of them in the morning, so DS has to have short hair Grin)

When it got really long last year I ended up just trimming it bit by bit until it was out of his eyes at least. Then I did the same at the back (it was getting so long I could put it in a ponytail!). I sort of followed the shape of his hair, if that makes sense, just making it shorter. I figured nobody was really seeing him, so it didn't matter! I kept stopping and looking and then doing a bit more, probably not the best job but better than nothing. The worst part was keeping him still! TV or tablet a definite requirement.

Since then I've had DM cut it a few times because she's braver than me, but we're back to not seeing her so it's down to us again. I'm scared!

Just remember, if it all goes wrong: hair grows back!

CoodleMoodle · 05/02/2021 21:56

Oh, and does he have a parting? My DM was incredulous that DS doesn't have a proper parting in his hair, but when she actually looked she couldn't find it either. It's bizarre, like it has a mind if it's own.

hogu · 05/02/2021 21:57

@CoodleMoodle Nope no parting! I've tried and tried to make him have a parting but his masses of hair win everytime. It all just falls forward!!

Cut and hold strands of hair vertically not of horizontally.

bellagogosdead · 05/02/2021 22:02

Supply child with mini milk for distraction Wink

CoodleMoodle · 05/02/2021 22:04

@hogu
Sounds exactly like DS! Like I say, my DM is aghast that he doesn't have one, like it's something we can control Grin I really thought short/boy hair would be easier but it's so hard to get right when it comes to cutting.

I wish you the best of luck with it!

JohnMiddleNameRedactedSwanson · 05/02/2021 22:19

We didn’t realise until we cut DS’s hair with a trimmer that he has two crowns, which explained why his hair always stuck up in crazy directions.

CheddarGorgeous · 05/02/2021 22:32

@Oldieandgoldie

Cut and hold strands of hair vertically not of horizontally.
This. Just take sections of hair and cut vertically. It's how I do my (straight, fine) hair and it works.
Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 05/02/2021 22:41

Have you tried giving him a side parting and training it sideways? Blow dry every day with mousse or whatever. It can take a little while. I love it the way it is by the way.
