Pilgrim Collars

I have noticed that pilgrim collars have arrived. I'm not sure if you can wear them if you are over 25 without looking like a pilgrim. Any thoughts on how to wear them and still look stylish

The model is slender and not busty. She also looks young.
It needs a 'and this is what it will look like on you, Janet'.

I have a collar from Arket which I wear over jumpers, and a blouse from Monki - I’m not 25, but I am a size 10 and not busty! They look great but are very difficult to get a jacket/coat on over. I’m on Teams calls all day and they are really good for fancying up a plain knit.

RaskolnikovsGarret · 04/02/2021 22:09

It’s lovely

viewsoftheshard · 04/02/2021 23:20

These became my latest obsession, I have several despite being over 40 and large busted. Worked out they look best with v-neck jumpers, with cardigans they just look too twee on me. And wear them with black big soled Chelsea boots (though currently in an orthopaedic shoe which doesn’t help the look!’). I suspect when we get out back out in the real world I’ll be selling them....

ZaraW · 05/02/2021 04:40

A lot of people will be asking themselves "did I really wear that?!" in six months time.

nevernotagain · 05/02/2021 05:33

My first thought when I opened the link was a straight up Regina George "Stop trying to make fetch happen. It's not going to happen." And the fact I'm not very far away from 25 should be clear from that being my first thought.

Honestly just... why? And how? Do you think they all just sit around at a big table with a whiteboard and take turns of coming up with the most bat shit thing they can try to push on the unsuspecting masses? Do you think they place bets and try to outdo each other?

Camouflage. Cold shoulder tops. Those ridiculous bell sleeves. And now... pilgrim fancy dress.

Next summer it will be Elizabethan collars. Wether that's the 16th century ruffle type or the plastic cones for pets is a 50/50 gamble at this stage.

KirstenBlest · 05/02/2021 08:48

I have about 3 camouflage things.

Cold shoulder tops - the ones where shoulders look like potatoes are awful.

I thin they were popular with women wishing to hide their bingo wings.

Most fast fashion is intended to be treated as disposable.
Want it, get it, wear it a few times, realise it's hideous...

KirstenBlest · 05/02/2021 08:53

think not thin obviously.

I have something with statement sleeves from a brand likes on here. It looks nice but the silly sleeves annoy me.

The &OS blouse is pretty, but the fashion must-have white shirt in reality only looks pristine for a short while. About 10 minutes in my case.

The Trou stuff looks like it doesn't fit the models, cups brimming over &AllThat.

littlebillie · 05/02/2021 13:48

I thought Ella Emhoff looked amazing, but it seems to have launched a new look. I maintain this looks amazing if you are slim and have a fashion forward attitude. This does remind me of the cold shoulder look, they made me look dreadful

I think they look nice but I'm not going to get one because I'm sure they will be a passing fad and I'm desperately trying to only buy clothes that will ,last several years ( so not be highly trendy)

dudsville · 06/02/2021 09:33

Emhoff's outfit was fabulous!

That top is pretty, but I wore a lot of this in the 80s. Some stuff I can revive but that's not one of them, but if I may... my favourite proper outfit of the era was a peach blouse with this collar, tucked neatly into a peach skirt... I think it had a neat waist with flat pleats and I was thin so they just hung down, with white leather studded ankle boots. Oh those ankle boots. There was a song popular at the time, I can't remember the name but the lyrics summed up the outfit for me. I will google and return to my reverie.

dudsville · 06/02/2021 09:37

It was "I wanna be a cowboy" by Boys Don't Cry.

thedevilinablackdress · 06/02/2021 09:41

With stuff like this, if I really genuinely like it and would wear regardless of fashion, then I'll buy it. Even better, waiting until they go in the sale.

Zinnia · 06/02/2021 13:33

I like the look but have wide shoulders so it's not for me - see also yolk-style "fair isle" jumpers. Sadly.

maradesbois · 06/02/2021 15:25

While I loathe the term ‘modest fashion’ due to its implied binary opposition ie what is not modest is by nature immodest, I also adore the pilgrim collar, prairie dress and big smock type garments generally. I’ve built quite a collection of Victorian-inspired shirts with puff sleeves and high collars and dream of owning a Vampire’s Wife or Batsheva dress. Don’t think I have the right body shape for VW, too curvy but I think any shape and age can do a big collar and that they’ll be around for a few years to come.

I have these two, the striped one to wear in spring/summer buttoned up with pale blue denim and the white one (pretty low cut so a completely different look and more flattering to bigger boobs) under a v neck cardigan in winter & on its own when warm enough.
