I started using The Ordinary products a while ago. I really like the squalene cleanser. But, I still had a face wash and scrub to use to so was using those along side.

Now I've been using The squalene cleanser alone for a couple of weeks and notice that my pores on nose and chin, sebaceous filaments I think, are darker, like blackheads almost. Like the cleanser isn't really cleaning.

I'm going to start double cleansing, both ends of the day but wonder if anyone has any recommendations on a budget.

For info, I'm using The Ordinary products for every thing else

A.m. hyaluronic acid 2%
Vit C suspension 23% (dobt like this so just using up)
Natural moisturizing factors.
P.m. hyaluronic
Niacinamide 10%+zinc
(Yet to add mandelix acid)
Natural moisturizing factors

I think it might be the Vitamin C causing the darker looking pores - oxidising the oil at the top of them. I'm not entirely sure if I have that right. My favourite cleanser is Avene Extremely Gentle Cleanser. I rinse it off rather than just wiping it.

Ah you may be right, I have been using it daily rather than occasionally, in a bid to use it up!

I really like the squalene cleanser. My skin is really smooth now. I didn’t like the ordinary vitamin c either.
I also rate ‘Buffet’ and I’ve just started using the retinoid in squalene and like the results. Someone at work said that my skin was looking really good and asked what I used!

Liz Earle cleanse and polish. Or the Aldi dupe is just as good imo

EvilSylvanianRabbit · 05/02/2021 07:05

I’ve just started the Neutrogena HydroBoost Water Gel cleanser, it smells lovely and gets every scrap of make up off

ImFree2doasiwant · 05/02/2021 08:58

I do too, but was concerned about the appearance of these pores. I'm a bit scared to branch out into choosing my own products, they used to list what not to use them with, but I don't think they do anymore. I have heard great things about Buffet but not sure where it would fit in.

I might have to investigate those recommendations too thank you.

I swear by CeraVe Smoothing Cleanser. Its quite gentle but contains salicylic acid for exfoliation. If I use it morning and night my skin looks amazing. I have some large pores and combination skin.

mackvic4 · 05/02/2021 12:21

i agree CeraVe and Liz Earle both good (I also use the aldi dupe for liz earle) but if you wear a lot of makeup the clinique take the day away cleansing balm is good. double cleansing is advised if you wear a lot of makeup, cleansing first to remove the dirt/makeup and then cleansing again to get into the pores

Yafilthyanimal · 05/02/2021 12:24

I use Superdrug's Naturally radiant hot cloth cleaner and other products.

I double cleanse too.

Wildwood6 · 05/02/2021 13:49

I really rate The Ordinary's products, but I could never get on with their cleansers for some reason. I really like The White Company's cleansing balm (which is strangely actually made by The Ordinary on their behalf, but nothing like anything they make for their own label). It's one of those cleansers you rub in and then have to wash off with a flannel or a muslin cloth.

As a side note even though I really like The Ordinary's products I can't use any of their vitamin C products on any part of my face that is prone to spots or congestion, with the exception of the Vitamin C powder perhaps. My skin is quite combination so I tend to just use Vitamin C on the drier parts of my face- if it goes anywhere near any of the oilier parts of my skin I'll always breakout within a day or two.

I don't wear much make up, even less in the current circumstances of only 1 day in the office. I do, however, get quite dirty! (Horses, garden)

Clinique Take the Day Off balm. It's the best.

HappierTimesAhead · 05/02/2021 17:55

Superdrugs Naturally radiant hot cloth

CrochetToTheMoon · 05/02/2021 18:08

CeraVe hydrating cleanser, i’m onto my second bottle - love it!

sepsisandAKI · 05/02/2021 22:18

Yes to cerave hydrating cleanser and Superdrug/Aldi hot cloth cleanser. I use buffet after double cleansing, using toner then apply then use cerave pm lotion.

PointBreakOrBadBoys2 · 05/02/2021 22:22

Take The Day Off is my oil cleanse.

Liz Earle hot cloth (or Aldi dupe) is my cream cleanse.
