Called fat...by a fat man !

I'm sort of laughing at this to be honest but just thought I'd share it.

So I go to the shop early morning, feeling not too bad about myself ...its relative to my current state though.
Im in a rush, run into a man haven't seen in years, barely recognised him, he is all up for a chat but I'm in a hurry, he casually throws in , 'you've put on a bit of weight since I last saw you haven't you ! ' I reply ' im fat' ! Which to be brutally honest , I am. But still, not as overweight as he.... he then goes on to tell me he has lost 2 to 3 stone and how he has got there.
By this stage I'm laughing under my mask because he is utterly oblivious to his comment and how his own situation is seemingly worse than mine, despite his weight loss. Anyway I eventually run on about my day....I'm curious to know how others would have responded/ handled it !

My step dad saw me in summer and as I went over to give me a kiss hello he said "you've piled it on" I was devastated.
My SD is a big guy and he had piled on at least double what I had.
He said it with the best intentions but he knows I don't like being fat, I used to run marathons and loved keeping fit but due to an accident that has left me with a chronic pain disorder making exercise very difficult plus the meds I'm on have blown me up.
I was shocked butt tried to hide it as I know it was harsher than he meant.
If this was a stranger talking tobme I would have quipped back that he needed to look in the mirror.
Men are delusional about what they look like and no matter how fat, ugly with a shit personality they still think they should be getting the Scarlett Johanssons of this world.

When I was online dating the website I was on asked various questions about yourself and what you were looking for. It was a real eye opener how many clearly overweight guys specified they wanted a woman less than 10stone. I was a size 8 and would go out with a man if he was slightly overweight but found the entitlement of a 15 st man that he would date someone 5 st less (and usually 10 years younger) astounding. I avoided those types.

Men in many cases still seem to think being overweight doesn't count for them. Very much the
Gavin and Stacey scenario where Smithy goes on about Nessa's size, apparently oblivious...

Tehmina23 · 07/02/2021 12:29

It's like Arg & Gemma Collins from TOWIE when 26 stone Arg recently sent abusjve texts to GC criticising her weight...

He was probably put out that you seemed to busy to chat to him, he was very rude though, if I had got to point of when it said you've put on a bit of weight without me directly telling him to fuck off, The part of when he said he had lost weight I would of said 'still quite a way to go then'
Yes it's rude too but I'm not letting anyone speak to me like that.

5128gap · 07/02/2021 13:58

He was extremely and inexcusabley rude.
No grown adult with an ounce of social skills would think that was ok.
Any attempt to insult him back would be pointless as he is aware he is overweight and it also legitimise insulting overweight people.
I think I would have just said 'that's very rude' and walked away.

londonmummy1234 · 07/02/2021 14:15

What a dick!!
He sounds like a really insecure person that just wanted a reason to talk about his weight loss. What a moron. Don't give it a second thought OP.

londonmummy1234 · 07/02/2021 14:16

@Dilligaf81 that's so insensitive of your step dad. Don't let it get to you.

Dilligaf81 · 07/02/2021 14:26

@londonmummy1234 thanks. I know it was borne from worry hut I was shocked he said it like that in front of a room of people. I thought id dressed quite well but the HHs bazookas were hard to hide 😂.
I've lost over a stone now so on my way to being 'me' again.

Madge55 · 07/02/2021 14:47

I wish I was one of those people who was able to pack a punch with a snappy oneliner, the thing is I wouldnt wanted to have offended him ! Ridiculous i know.

Completely agree with those doing online dating and men who seem deluded. One or two I would understand but every bloke seems to think they are hot or deserved of an active, twenty something! I'm perplexed. To the op, what a rude thing to say. I would have quickly made my excuses and zoomed off.
