Talk to me about the Elasticizer

I found a tube of Elasticizer in my bathroom cabinet (gift from a couple of years ago I forgot about). ANy experience here? Any good? Best ways to use it?

It never did anything for my frizzy and dry hair. Olaplex works much better.

sporky · 02/02/2021 11:30

Love the stuff!

My hair is thick, pretty straight naturally but prone to dryness as I get it coloured.

You wet your hair (not wash it), apply and leave on. I try to leave it on as long as possible (hours at the moment as I'm working from home!) I find it works best when I cover my head with a plastic shower cap (cling film also works) and then wrap with a warm towel. Rinse and shampoo as normal.

LetMeStraightenMyCrownFirst · 02/02/2021 12:06

Can you leave it on overnight?

Jumbojem · 02/02/2021 12:28

I leave mine overnight. Sometimes until I next wash my hair now I'm barely leaving the house!

sulee · 02/02/2021 16:09

I love it too! My thin stringy dry hair is transformed after leaving it on for an hour or so - more if I have time- at least once a week. Rinse it off and voila! It seems to condition without weighing my fine hair down

Confusedandshaken · 02/02/2021 17:07

It's brilliant stuff. Properly wet your head when you use it, don't just dampen it. I hold my head under the tap. And don't be stingy with it. I leave it on for a few hours with a shower cap over it.

LetMeStraightenMyCrownFirst · 02/02/2021 17:35

Looking forward to trying it out!

I also love it - I usually apply lots to damp hair and leave it on overnight. I've tried Olaplex too but it didn't really do anything for my hair.

MoltonSilver · 03/02/2021 00:31

It worked miracles on my hair.

dudsville · 03/02/2021 11:45

I hope you love it. It really made a difference to my hair. I now use the extreme version! I just leave it on for about an hour. I tried overnight but didn't like sleeping like that. I've also left it on all day, but I feel I get a good enough result from an hour and that's easiest for me. Pop it on, do some chores, shower and get on with my life.

dudsville · 03/02/2021 11:47

Oh, and I brush my hair to untangle it, upside down over the bath, and the with the water running I wet my hands and run them through my hair until just before hair is dripping, then do the same with elasticizer and pop a pony tail/bun on the top of my head. I might try the poster's shower cap idea.

dontgobaconmyheart · 03/02/2021 17:57

I do think if used properly and left on reasonably extensively it's very good but maybe I'm just lazy, I hate having wet hair or keeping it in a towel/cling film over time, so uncomfortable and all the faff involved over the course of the day just to do it means that when I've had a bottle it stays full because I can never motivate myself. There is absolutely no way I could sleep with it in.

Fully prepared to accept I'm lazy though! Hope it does your hair some good OP!

Aelfrid · 03/02/2021 18:00

I stick a woollie hat over the shower cap to prevent the cold drip/neck thing. It's also marginally more flattering but does give off a strange Pootle Flump vibe, according to my DH. #oldduffers

LizzieSiddal · 03/02/2021 18:04

I love it, use it once a week and it makes a huge difference to my frizzy hair. I wrap my hair in a small towel and leave for about an hour.

Nanasueathome · 03/02/2021 18:05

It never did anything for me
However, I had a sample of Davines hair butter which I gave to my daughter ( in a Liberty GWP)
She raved about it and so I bought some for myself
It’s a game changer

LightsOff12 · 03/02/2021 18:13

It never did anything for me either I’m afraid. Actually really hated it and never touched it again

Girlintheframe · 03/02/2021 18:23

Doesn't work for me either sadly

LetMeStraightenMyCrownFirst · 03/02/2021 19:03

OK. So on Saturday I'll wet my hair in the shower, stick the Elasticizer on and leave it in all day. Then I'll wash it out before bed. I'm very curious now.

I have thick curly hair and have tried two different type of PK Elaticiser but neither had any impact on my hair sadly.

I find Percy and Reed much better.

lockdownalli · 03/02/2021 19:52

And that includes leaving it on all day and sleeping in it - still no effect.

Aelfrid · 04/02/2021 11:09

It sort of works for me (fine curly hair) but I prefer It's a 10 Miracle Mask or Aveda Damage Repair for volume. Elasticizer makes my hair feel very greasy on the second day.

givemedaffodils · 04/02/2021 13:10

The sample tube worked well for me so I bought an expensive tub of it.

By the third application it was useless.

mynewusernameisthis · 04/02/2021 13:13

I like it. Thick straight slightly frizzy hair here

Brogues · 04/02/2021 17:21

I love it. Your thread prompted me to do a treatment yesterday evening in fact. I have very long, fine hair, that is is pretty good condition anyway but it does feel stronger and smoother after using PK. I only wet the ponytail part and then twisted and clipped it up for an hour. Just finished a tube so have a lovely new pot to dip into next time.

For those who do weekly or frequent treatments I was sure I read not to use this kind of thing too often but I cannot remember the reason properly? Has anyone else heard that?
