can someone help me pick for my birthday please?

Have just requested to DH that I have something "to sort out my face" for my birthday coming up soon, he's nodded and smiled but have realised I have no idea what specific thing to ask for.
I'd like some kind of tool rather than a cream or product, as it's likely I wouldn't be able to afford to replace something expensive.

If it's any help I seem to have essentially every skincare problem going at the moment.

  • dark circles under eyes
  • very dry skin
  • large pores on my nose
  • hormone related spots
  • red pigment at the corners of my eyes that are impossible to shift
  • possible rosacea on my cheeks
  • am also in the middle of losing baby weight so have a nice double chin to round it all off

Can anyone recommend anything please, aside from a face transplant? I think around 200 max budget.

Might be best spending that on visiting a specialist.

merryhollybright · 01/02/2021 12:53

Thanks for that.

I don't think there's a tool that addresses all of those things.

I would suggest starting off with a nice facial and then getting some lovely products to address the drynesse etc but you don't want to aggravate the roasacea if that's what it is. I'd speak to the pharmacist or GP about that first.

What are you using on your face at the moment and what is your diet/water /alcohol intake like?

Twisique · 01/02/2021 13:05

Clinique do some nice products.

Thank you, I'd like to book a facial but have had them before for birthdays etc and I was hoping for something that would address even one or two of the issues long term. I've seen the facial electrical type things online and just wondered which ones were any good. Have tried perscribed cream for the rosacea but it didn't do anything. Currently just wash my face with water and tea tree oil and use a fragrance free moisturiser for dry skin. Don't drink or smoke, eat healthily with one day a week for treats.

Yes they do.

some of the red or other coloured light masks might be around that price.
maybe google for some brands and then look at reviews/tests on youtube?
Or some of the deep cleaning tools for removing makeup etc

Adviceneeded4 · 01/02/2021 13:26

What about a subscription to dermatica? They can diagnose your skin issues and send you the products to fix it www.dermatica.co.uk/how-it-works

hopeishere · 01/02/2021 14:52

If go onto the SpaceNK site your can filter products for a specific issue.

TableNiner · 01/02/2021 16:33

If you have very dry skin, I'd perhaps drop the tea tree oil and try something less harsh. Might help with some of your redness too
Something like Cerave hydrating cleanser.

You could get a range of nice products for £200 but it's easy to overdo it and be piling loads of different stuff on, which is not only time consuming but expensive. Skincare is a long game so might not be sustainable to fall in love with expensive products. A dermatology appointment might not be a bad idea, but not if they then prescribe upmarket stuff you have to keep using. You don't need to spend loads on skincare to get results.

Perhaps a nice mask, Origins do nice ones. Or Dr Sam Bunting has a nice range, perhaps look at those, esp the overnight serums. Make up might be a better bet for dark circles, they are notoriously hard to shift!

I hope you find what you are looking for!

Thanks for the helpful advice everyone, I'll do some research 👍🏻

Def ditch tea tree oil if your dry skinned. That’s mega drying.
I think I’d split the budget a third on products and the balance on a tool.
For products get a cleanser (gentle) a great moisturiser with spf and a treatment cream for the most pressing issue.
You can’t fix dark circles. Sorry! It’s a make up job. Also the double chin is a weight issue. Will need to be a diet and excercise fix.
So onto tools. I think you need to get a great cleansing brush thing or start with facial gym stuff.

Onekidnoclue · 01/02/2021 17:28

For products try a few bits from this list. www.theguardian.com/fashion/2020/sep/26/best-facial-skincare-products-under-20-pounds-cleanser-toner-moisturiser-serum

Squiggleness · 01/02/2021 17:30

I would get a collagen supplement for 3 months, then a decent double cleansing routine like Super Facialist vitamin C oil cleanser & polish. Really activates cell renewal. You also need to look at a probiotic for your rosacea. Biokult is fine... your skin health comes directly from your gut. A nice tanning cream for your face like Tan Luxe Drops can also minimise a world of sins

alicewasahorse · 01/02/2021 17:33

They aren't super expensive but I'd
Recommend a quartz roller. I got a set from
The white company for Xmas that includes a separate eye roller too. I keep them in the fridge and feel great after using them especially if I put a serum on first.

A beauty pie annual subscription may be a good idea too as you can then get some really great products a lot cheaper. I'm obsessed by their serums in particular.

PJ04JCW · 01/02/2021 17:35

I've just started a skin and me subscription, £20 a month but free for the first month.

december212 · 01/02/2021 17:40

I know you mention it's a birthday gift so this is a little bit cheap maybe, but the Aldi facial products are really good. I'm getting great results with the Aldi collagen/retinol serum that was £3.99, I also have large pores and dry patches. My skin feels really smooth. Eucerin creams are also good, but affordable.

52andblue · 01/02/2021 17:46

I'd agree - the Aldi products are really inexpensive and consistently get good reviews - you could afford a range on an ongoing basis possibly?
(they even do quartz rollers sometimes - I have one, need to find and use)

BangingOn · 01/02/2021 17:48

My skin has been revolutionised by an Anti Anti avlub subscription (all your money back after 2 months if it doesn’t work) a cheap Derma Rolling kit from Amazon, a Jade facial roller and regular Korean sheet masks. You’d have plenty of change from £200.
