hello ladies

ok, so am thinking of buying this dress for a winter wedding I'm going to, it's in a church and then a marquee (but is v v posh). here's the dress:

www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10001_10001_17632_474011_-1

Now my legs are definately not my best feature, they're not particularly fat, just SOLID, err treetrunks would perhaps be the best word. The dress comes to mid calf length so reckon I can just about get away with it. Hubby really wants me to wear a dress and I've lost 1 stone recently and rest of me looks ok.

So can I wear tights? Thick ones? Thin ones? Black ones? Neutral ones? If i do wear tights then I have to get shoes with a toe don't i? Do i? Surely I can't wear tights with strappy shoes can i?

help, i never wear dresses or skirts and am a bit lost on this one!

I get a bit confused about tights too but I do know that you can get tights with open toes for wearing with strappy sandals. Obviously only neutral ones as the idea is to make it look like you have very nice-looking bare legs.

I prefer opaque black tights generally, but maybe not with that dress as it's so "dressy".

i'd probs get some stockings instead, ones with a line up the back of the leg and wear with stunning closed toe pointy shoes the same colour as the handbag you intend to use!!

stockings here

or here

and shoes like this

I'd definately avoid opaque tights.
I like the seamed stockings that glaskam linked to.
Lovely dress BTW.

fishnets?

MooOOOoooooooooooomin · 31/10/2007 12:56

I'm hearing you on the old Tree-Trunks, sister! I think my thighs are probably the same width as my ankles, sadly (slight exaggeration - but not much)

When I've worn dresses on 'dressy' occasions in the past and then analysed the photos afterwards, the verdict seems to be YES to pointy high-heeled shoes as they elongate your legs and make them less stocky (but NO bar straps on them at all) and YES to sheerish stockings or tights seeing as you can't really wear opaques for an occasion like this- would fishnets be a bit too vampy for a wedding? If so, then just go for good quality black sheers. Balance out with a fab -big & glitzy- necklace. What are you wearing on your arms? A fake fur stole/bolero would look great with this dress I think (but that's just my opinion). And wear it all with confidence!

You can get fishets with a closer 'net' if you know what I mean. These are less vampy and much more classy. On very well moisterised hair free legs, and gorgeous pointy toed shoes think both would look really good with that dress.
