Sleeping in makeup looks good?

I know it's bad for your skin (right?) but last night I fell asleep in my makeup and I actually think it looks great the next day. The foundation is still on but kind of more blurred, like its melted into my skin. The eyeliner did that ugly thing where there were gloops in the corners of my eyes but once I wiped those out, it had kind of smudged but still looked good. I actually think slept in makeup can look better than freshly done!
How come in the day time it can just slide off or stay put if you use setting sprays but never get that blurred look?
How can I recreate it without actually sleeping in it?

Foundation: More moisturiser/dewy spray?
I know what you mean, I’ve experienced it before and I’m sure it was due to my skin needing more hydration, either before applying makeup or in the makeup itself, otherwise my pores were just so visible.

Eyes: blend, blend, blend with a soft eyeliner or even a tiny brush dipped in shadow. Slowly and patiently build it up from very little, next day eyeliner has faded/worn off.

The above makes me sound like I’m used to next-day makeup lol, swear I don’t do it anymore.

Use a damp sponge blender

I totally get this, not so much with the foundation as thats long worn off, but with eyeliner. I agree using a damp blender sponge sprayed with setting spray and blending the make up in can recreate that look. Also try using a dewy making spray whatever they’re called, on top of your finished look

Last tip, maybe rub a tiny bit of Vaseline around the eye liner to encourage it to spread and give that smudged look

What am I doing wrong? I look hideous the following morning after sleeping in makeup 😂

I look like Alice Cooper, if I sleep in my makeup.

I used to fall asleep with makeup on after a drunk night out, and I always had an excellent smoky eye the next day!

I’ve not done that since my uni days, although I have recently noticed an annoying thing; I look great when I first wake up, when my skincare has been doing it’s job all night and I’m dewy and glowy first thing, but then I deteriorate throughout the day! I always hear about people waking up look rough and I have the exact opposite problem- wish I could look like I’ve just woken up all day, instead of becoming a pink cheeked, oily mess!!

In my party years I would only take my mascara off on a Sunday. I would start again on Monday, adding to it each day so that by the weekend I looked like a bushbaby .

It was a Rimmel mascara. Waterproof I'm guessing.

I've never worn foundation.

I wear a Maybelline Matte Ink lipstick now which stays on literally overnight. It gets a bit darker as the day goes on so if I forget to take that off it can be a bit alarming in the morning!

THIS. On the mornings when I’ve slept on my back, I wake up looking so nice. My skin is clear and bloodless. Then as the morning progresses I just look ruddy and awful again.

Yep, I have always thought this.

I haven’t done this since my early 20s and this thread is making me feel all nostalgic! I remember waking up and thinking I looked great the next day when I’d slept in make-up, but then I was about 22 (and quite possibly still drunk from the previous night). Pretty sure I’d look like Alice Cooper nowadays!

GrumpyHoonMain · 30/01/2021 22:22

If you have oily skin then doing it too often will cause serious breakouts. To get that look try using a hydrating primer or cc cream after your moisturiser.

I used to go to uni with someone who wore a full heavy makeup everyday and she slept in it and added to it everyday. It was only removed when she showered (every 4-5 days) she looked lovely without make up.

Mascara used to always look better the next day. Doesn't seem to happen with the current ones.
