I have two preschoolers and just wondering how old your kids were before you got out of leggings / mum uniform?

What’s a mum uniform? I just wore my pre-mum clothes as soon as they fitted again! Maybe I’ve always been a mum- type though! Skinny jeans and tight tops with either sandals or boots depending on weather’ or for work I’d wear a fitted top and short skirt with black tights and smart boots or longer floatier dresses in summer. Although I have to admit I have been in leggings for the last few months while people can’t see me because of lockdown and I’m preggers.

as soon as I went back to work (10 months) but its probably a moot point with many of us WFH. Fwiw, they are older now and I am back to the postnatal leggings look with WFH.

Literally 4-6 weeks after having given birth I was back into all my pre-pregnancy clothes.

It's very individual though, whatever you're happy with xx

It was a few weeks, maybe two months max. Why? Everyone is different.

Some folks loose quickly some never loose it. There is no rule.

Hmm interesting question!

I didn't fit into my pre baby clothes after dc1, so I ended up buying some new things. I lost my job while on mat leave, (they closed my office). So I knew I was most likely going to be at home for a while, so I did buy a bit of a mum uniform which I am still in 6 years later Blush.

However, I don't wear leggings all that much tbh, unless I have a sports activity planned that day. Usually I wear jeans or dresses with tights, which is more or less what I wore before babies, except it was more corporate for work. I think, these days, even office workers get away with more casual looks, so don't see how wearing mum clothes is a million miles away from anyone else anymore 🤷‍♀️.

Should have phrased my question differently- not when did you fit into pre pregnancy clothes again (agree, of course this varies), but more, when did you wear things without worrying about kids smearing paint / food etc on you, or have time to wear things that need ironing / have time to put outfits together....

Not yet then! Mine are 3 and 6. Still very aware of the imminent paint / peanut butter smears I'm afraid! Maybe less so with the 6yo. So maybe 3 years from now for me!

Oh that was fairly immediate. Of course if my daughter was painting I’d cover up if joining in, but she never really smeared food on me, I’d just wipe it off if she did.

I think it is harder at the moment op, as weather is crap and there is absolutely nowhere to go! With dc1, I was out all the time. A) this meant I felt the need to dress up a bit and B) she was well occupied with soft play, playgroup etc.

Now, we find we have to provide more entertainment at home. When I do go out, people don't see anything other than my coat and boots! I could be wearing anything underneath, even pjs, (I don't btw, but I could be for all anyone else knows)!

I do make an effort, but I don't wear anything which could get ruined. Anyone with two preschool age children, (been there very recently), who never gets their clothes destroyed is superhuman to me! Some people are naturally tidy though and maybe their dcs are too. I don't wear cashmere as I would have to wash it too often, but I compromise and wear lambswool or merino, which I find to me more forgiving, but still warm and looks good quality, for example.

I actually think having a good quality uniform is a good thing when you have more than one under school age! Even one under school age can be time consuming enough, as I have now, (homeschooling the older one atm obviously). I find having a naice mum uniform helps me feel put together with minimal effort!

When I went back to work at 11 months.

Lilypad78 · 29/01/2021 20:08

When I went to work - 14 months with dd1 & 11 months with dd2. Although I still made an effort with my clothes whilst on maternity & liked to look nice, it was a different, more casual style which suited my lifestyle at that time. My (usual) work style is much smarter - dresses, skirts, tailored trousers & heels & was not at all suitable for crawling round after a baby Smile.

Clymene · 29/01/2021 20:28

Went back to work when children were 9 months so was in suits /office attire weekdays.

If you're a sahp then it makes sense to wear clothes that you don't mind getting covered in paint or food
