Your aloe vera recipes

I recently bought an aloe vera plant. I am keen to use the gel from the leaves on my skin and hair. I have looked online and there are so many different recipes, some saying one thing, others saying the opposite.

I was therefore hoping some of you may be able to recommend some recipes/methods that you've used yourselves and are happy to share. Thank you.

You can use it neat.

BarryWhiteIsMyBrother · 29/01/2021 08:04

Yes but how?

I haven't tried any of the recipes on the links.

I rubbed a snapped off Aloe Vera leaf/cactus prong on my skin once and it smelled AWFUL. This is probably not much help, but the smell is not good when used neat.

If you are going to use it on your skin neat, do it at night

It does leave a green tinge. Teen DS was mortified Grin

Put it in the blender to get a gel you can use as a hair mask

BarryWhiteIsMyBrother · 29/01/2021 11:26

How long would I need to leave it on my hair please

And when used on your skin do you then need to rinse it off?

Anyone?

Yes you do rinse it off your skin - never used it on hair. If you cut a leaf off, put in the fridge for a couple f hrs, then slice of the spiky ends then cut through the middle. Rub on skin and leave like a face mask, then clean off. A little goes a long way. If it's fresh or shouldn't smell! Fab for burns

For hair, mix the gel with a little bit of carrier oil and rub from root to tip. Leave it on for about 20 mins then shampoo it out.

I was on holiday in Lanzarote once and aloe Vera is probably their biggest industry other than British tourism and our tour guide made us rub some aloe from the plants on our skin, apparently it is fantastic for sunburn. Omg it smelled fantastic on my skin all day. Since then I’ve bought plants hoping to recreate the smell on my skin at home but nada unfortunately. I think the plants we buy in the uk are way too small and un juicy unfortunately.

OP, take a leaf and slice longways down it at the flattest angle (like when you slice a chicken breast in half). Use a spoon to scoop the flesh out. Smother it all over your cleansed face. Leave for 20mins or so. Then rinse.

I love an aloe Vera mask. So soothing and hydrating

Thank you for all the tips. I'll be giving this a go tomorrow morning.
