VERY Thirsty Hair - Conditioner Help

Nohomemadecandles · 27/01/2021 18:24

My hair is ridiculously thirsty. Need recs for a really good conditioner and/oil to quench it.

I CANNOT do CG or no poo routines, I have tried. I have awful scalp issues that need a specialist shampoo to clear. Currently I:-

*Only shampoo the roots
*Squeeze out excess water and smother with conditioner (currently Aussie)
*Leave for 5 mins whilst I do my other bits
*Rinse
*Use Liz Earle oil on the mids-ends
*Blow dry roots to mids thoroughly (or my scalp makes a fuss)
*Half dry mids-ends and smooth with Denman rubber brush thingy.

It needs more moisture. What's going to quench it???

Maybe try one of the wavy girl groups on Facebook, they are much less strict about following the cgm rules, you will get loads of advice if you ask for help.

My hair is very dry and I've tried TONS of different products. The best I've found are Philip Kingsley moisture extreme conditioner and Kerastase Elixir Ultime Original for a hair oil.

@CrystalMaisie I didn't know they existed! Thank you

I Wonder if Aussie has changed its formulation

They did, last year. Both variations still laden with silicones however, which aren’t helping with continuous use.

Coconut oil is said not to be as good as once thought on hair. I remember in the last decade it was THE thing to use. A bit on the ends isn’t the worst as a serum but don’t be led into using it as a mask.

I am enjoying using Kerastase just now myself

I did this morning. Hair is nice and soft. A little of it goes a long way but it seems to be ok.

KirstenBlest · 30/01/2021 13:29

I don't use it often, just occasionally.

I have tried all sorts of conditioner and none of them seem to do anything impressive.

CrystalMaisie · 30/01/2021 14:33

@Nohomemadecandles there’s a group called Wavy Girl Method (official) wavy hair don’t care, with a current thread about coconut and other oils, and the problems it gives their hair.

RiverSkater · 30/01/2021 14:42

What about a rose water and glycerin spray on your hair throughout the day, a bit like 7 skins for hair? glycerin attracts moisture?

RiverSkater · 30/01/2021 14:43

@TLIMSISNW

You sure it needs moisture and not protein?

I used to think my hair was super dry but actually it was in need protein.

Try a rice water rinse. I use starchy water from cooking rice, pour omit over my head between two bowls then pop a shower cap on for 15/20 minutes then wash off). Super cheap and easy and my hair gobbles it up (make sure you deep condition for a few minutes after the rinse though).

Gosh that's novel ! I'm intrigued!
KirstenBlest · 30/01/2021 14:51

Is there protein in rice water?

I've just joined it. Thank you
I'll have a read this evening then I'm muting it! Grin
Bit too intense for me with all the terms and acronyms. I don't have the headspace to obsess that much about it!
I'll keep trying everyone's suggestions, thank you.

Olaplex No3 and No6. Transformed my dry damaged parched hair.

lolaflores · 31/01/2021 09:44

Another olaplex no.3 advocate here. I use it as a mask overnight and it has stopped breakage and a part of my hairbisbregrowing.
My scalp itches like a buggerbtoo. Kerdtasse do anbitchy scalp shampoo and I rotate it with bizarro e45 shampoo and I use a clarifying shampoo once a month.
I am going to try the rice rinse though. I never thought about protein being the issue. I am menopausal and that makes sense
Hyloraunic acid in a treatment makes sense too as it attracts moisture. My hair changes its mind so frequently about what it will tolerate I am on a constant negotiation cycle with it.
So much good advice here
