Dyson hairdryer hair feeling brittle

Shuttheblinds · 27/01/2021 12:58

I have just used my Dyson for the first time. I used it with my normal product (Kerastase discipline cream). I blasted it dry with the smoothing nozzle and my hair felt like straw afterwards, so dry and brittle.

I then went over it with the styling nozzle. Now, half an hour after using it the dry, brittle feeling has gone, but I am worried it may dry my hair out. I used the medium heat and speed setting..

I have lots of hair which is frizzy if I air dry or dry it without running the straighteners through it.

Has anyone else experienced this? I was so excited to get this and saw amazing reviews of it so wonder of I am doing something wrong.

Personally I found it no better than a normal 'good' hairdryer but I have thick coarse hair and I don't think its designed for that

My hair felt like straw every time I used mine, I gave it away in the end.
Back to my trusted Parlux

Shuttheblinds · 27/01/2021 14:33

I have a Parlux too and after first use of the Dyson I still prefer my Parlux. But I will give it more time and try different speed and heat settings to see if it is better.

I've got curly hair, often dry, and I love my Dyson hair dryer.

Maybe your technique needs some work but if you're doing the same as with your previous hairdryer then it doesn't look good...

Thick curly hair here and love my Dyson

I had the same issue with mine at first. I’ve got thick wavy/frizzy hair and it left my hair like straw. I mentioned it to my hairdresser, who recommended the stain professional nozzle. I was reluctant to spend ever more money, but it made a real difference. After a few months, I noticed the condition of my hair was much better.

Stain = Dyson

Moonstone1234 · 27/01/2021 16:35

I think there is a lot of fake reviews on Dyson hairdryers. I have shoulder length hair in good condition (not coloured) and have had a Dyson for about 2 years. Use it about 5-6 times a week.

It really isnt all that! I prefer a Parlex but because the Dyson was so expensive I feel I should use it.

Its Ok. Nothing more. I always lightly use straighners after blow drying. That makes the biggest difference.

I also cut my fringe earlier. It looks OKish but honestly - when are hairdressers going to open and just how long will it take to get an appointment!!

Which one is the professional nozzle? I have got the smoothing nozzle, the styling one, the gentle nozzle and diffuser with mine. I will try it a few more times on different settings to see how it is.

Luckily I have it on a 60 day trial so can return it if I don’t get on with it.

I'm really happy with mine - been using it for 3 years now. But I do think hair appliances are a very personal thing.

Shuttheblinds · 27/01/2021 21:21

I have such high hopes! I will try it again tomorrow, I wash my hair daily so will have lots of opportunity to try different settings etc to see if it is any better.

Keep us posted OP - I'd love to hear more about what settings work and how you get on with it as I'm really keen on one myself...

Shuttheblinds · 27/01/2021 22:36

I will report back tomorrow ineedsunshinenow.

So I used the diffuser today, my hair has a bit of curl and I can bung a load of mousse in it, scrunch it and let it air dry and its quite curly. So today I put the mousse in and used the diffuser.....omg it was a frizzy mess. What am I doing wrong?

How did you use the diffuser?

It's important not to touch your hair too much when it's curly. Put your product on ASAP after washing (a leave in a conditioner and curl cream works for me but you could also use mousse) and then don't touch it again too much.

Either let it dry a bit or just use the hair dryer to rough dry but ideally without handling it loads and without moving around the diffuser too much. Ideally put your head upside down and put the dyson diffuser at the bottom of one area and slowly push up to the scalp, holding for a few seconds or until it feels too hot but I would use settings 1-2 for this.

Shuttheblinds · 01/02/2021 02:45

I scrunched it a bit when I put the mousse on then used the diffuser. I will try again tomorrow exactly how you said and see if it is any better. Thanks for the tips.
