Lockdown saviours?

Has anyone found anything that's really helped them during lockdown, looks wise?

Me, been washing hair less, less 'products' so less finishing stuff - Pantene 3 Minute Miracle Repair is great, Superdrug Vitamin E Body Scrub Bar is great for winter skin - moisturising and scrubby and use in shower, Radox Donut Mind if I do Shower gel is the loveliest vanilla/white chocolate scented shower gel.

Olaplex-hair suddenly went very dry and frizzy despite stying it a lot less. The condition drastically improved after about 2 applications-think I need a good haircut tbh but not sure when that will happen.

I’m also not doing a skincare routine absolutely everyday either and again, skin looks & feels improved. Before anyone comments on my poor skin care, I mean that if I’ve cleansed etc etc but not actually gone anywhere or done anything, I will leave it for a day or so. My skin is dry and doesn’t react well to using lots of products at the same time anyway-saving me a small fortune atm!

actually similar to you - have pared down my skincare and appears to be working.

Tried retinol recently but think I prefer rosehip oil over it.

Weleda shower cream in citrus. Smells like sherbet lemons and the bright green bottle cheers me up too.

Ole Henriksen juice wash? Facial wash in the orange bottle. Smells like orange chewits and.... cheers me right up!

A million expensive hair care goodies but shout out to cheap Schwartzkopf colour protect shampoo from the poundshop, compares favourably to Redken and yip, pretty red bottle in the shower!

Waxing my own armpits. Oh yes.

Dermalogica power riche moisturiser, its wildly expensive but I get batches of sachets from ebay. Absolutely gorgeous, unbeatable.

Fresh sugar tinted lip treatment. Love it.

Allispretty · 26/01/2021 15:00

2nd for olaplex. Hair is like silk after using it a couple of times

I'm going to retry the Schwartzkopf shampoos.

I'm all about either trying brighter colours to cheer one-self up but lavender Senspa relaxing body wash (and bars) are sooooo relaxing.

Orange chewits - they don't do them anymore do they?! waaahhhh Sad

A heated cap (you heat it in microwave) over a cheap shower cap and conditioned hair left for 30 minutes. It's transformed my hair

Pigtailsandall · 26/01/2021 16:06

I love this body scrub from &Other Stories. Leaves your skin so soft and it smells nice
www.stories.com/en_gbp/beauty/bath-body/bodyscrubs/product.body-scrub-orange.0159481054.html

I also like the hand soaps, they smell fabulous and don't dry your hands too badly

ButwhereisMYcoffee · 26/01/2021 16:39

Has anyone got a really amazing, smoothing, firming, sinking-inning body lotion recommendation?

Obviously if it could complete my workout for me and homeschool the kids that would be an added bonus, TIA.

where do you get a heated cap from?

I like L'Occitane Body Butters and lotions.

My DM swears by Vaseline intensive care Aloe Vera

Weleda Skin Food - bloody miraculous stuff - just fitbit a few days ago and have to keep looking at my face in the mirror - fine lines, creepy skin and rough patches gone. I had a lump on my nose for months that I would exfoliate/moisturise and it would never go away - 2 days later, gone.
Ditto in the crease of my chin - I had a rough feeling there, almost like bumps. I thought they must be little spots brewing, but nope, dry skin and all smooth now.

Tempted to try the shower gel as I love the smell of the Skin Food which also smells citrus/herbal.

Also Nair on my lady bits every 2 weeks - don't think I'll ever wax again!

Oh wow the Skin Food sounds fab. Please may I ask how you use it? At night, or in the morning?
JMAngel1 · 26/01/2021 16:57

I got the Loccitane almond body concentrate for Xmas and it's gorgeous. Firming but pampering and the smell is addictive. Not sure I'll be able to afford it when it runs out though!
Garner Body Tonic is good though as a more affordable version - very firming and lemony scent.

MorrisZapp · 26/01/2021 17:00

Rio de Janeiro Bum Bum cream is the best body product on earth but I like to save it for summer.

JMAngel1 · 26/01/2021 17:02

@ServeTheServants
I've been putting it on morning and night - read a few reviews to say it's too greasy for daytime but if anything I've found it's stopped my skin getting oily throughout the day. it's very thick so I mind of emulsify it between my fingers before I apply it. It's quite astonishing the change in just 2 days in my face.

Gson · 26/01/2021 17:11

Second Bum Bum cream! I always use it on holidays and the smell reminds me of happier times Smile it is expensive for a pot of body cream but a little goes a long way.

I like Cerave for winter skin, you can use it all over your body but I find it great on my face and shins. Also Pixi glycolic acid toner for the face is really good.

This is what I mean but I got one much cheaper on eBay and also bought 50 shower caps there too (I also use the shower caps on my feet with loads of body butter and warm socks over)
Honestly when it comes to pampering on a cold day these caps are ace

Snackz · 26/01/2021 17:46

Less hair washing! I used to have to wash it every 2nd night but can now leave it a week and sometimes stretch to 2 weeks!

Bar of dove soap too Smile My skin has never looked so good!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/01/2021 17:59

Another vote for Weleda Skin Food - my hands are still the hands of a hag, but at least they are not bleeding. I hadn't thought to try it on my face - might have a dabble tonight!

I also bought some moisturiser in Holland and Barrett called, I think, Vita Skin. I liked the day cream so much that I went back for the night cream. The scent could be better, but they have really helped my skin, which was starting to feel really dry and tight.

losinghopeatarateofknots · 26/01/2021 21:59

Mylovelydd - thanks for the link to the shower cap but what would I look up if I were to find something on ebay? I'm keen to get what you got for the price you got it at as my income is low at the moment (self-employed)

HundredMilesAnHour · 26/01/2021 22:31

I love this cream! But I'm not saving it for summer. I use it before bed every night then lie awake enjoying how wonderful I smell! Grin

CeibaTree · 26/01/2021 22:48

I don't know why but a couple of months ago my hair went very thin and stringy almost over night. I've been using Aveda's botanical repair range and their thickening spray and it seems to be doing the trick. I've also started Spatone iron shots which have done wonders for my energy levels and may be helping with the hair issue too.

mynameiscalypso · 26/01/2021 22:52

Interestingly (well, not really), I've found that I've had to change my blusher for zoom calls as the one I used to wear in 'real life' (Nars Orgasm) just didn't seem to work as well as a more peachy Benefit blusher that I've had for ages but barely used.

CleverCatty · 27/01/2021 11:06

Here's another one I found in proper lockdown (April etc time?) but also used it recently.

Feet were freezing, had run out of bubble bath - googled and saw if you add Colmans Mustard Powder to a foot bath it warms, detoxes and is good for circulation. It worked! That's now my staple for foot baths.

CleverCatty · 27/01/2021 11:07

oh it's good for curing a cold too, which I think was one reason I tried it.
