Milia on eyelids - how to clear?

JulesM73 · 25/01/2021 19:49

Hi, I am looking for some help please. My DS has just turned 13 and for the last 6 months of so has been getting lots of milia spots on his eyelids, close to the inside corner of his eye.
We’ve tried gentle face wash but they are getting worse with some now getting infected. Any advice on how to help clear these please?

Thanks

If they are getting infected maybe take photos and book a telephone consultation with a Dr to discuss & you can text them the pictures to look at. Sounds painful!

Thanks, I did speak to a nurse when talking about an check up for him and she said they wouldn’t do much unless in the eye! If it got really bad they would refer him to a dermatologist but she said that could take years! Hoping someone could recommend something I could try at home.

I usually get these popped out at my beauty salon, one's near the eye's are painful though!! Not much help as salons are closed.

I've had the same milia on my right eye for 30 years! They're not harmful if left alone and no-one really notices them. If they're getting infected obviously consult the GP, otherwise I'd say just leave them, they've never really bother me.

This might sound a bit random, but try cutting dairy from his diet and see if that helps. A friend of mine tried it, it worked for her.

On my own face, I have used a steralised needle to pin prick the top and gently squeeze out.
Not sure if I'd use that technique on a child though 🤷‍♀️

My kids both have these.
Particularly bad round the eyes.
Any solutions welcome!!
Can I ask about the beautician trip- is it a big undertaking?

Not really, she uses something similar to a blackhead tool to pop it out, eyes are obviously quite delicate and I'm not sure if there would be many salons willing to extract on kids.

I’ve noticed mine have started to disappear after a few months of using retinol. I gently exfoliate at night using a dual sided cloth, then apply retinol and finally aveeno cream.

I suddenly realised that one on my forehead is a lot less prominent this week, about 7 weeks on to my new routine. I’m now making sure I carefully do the same to one on my cheekbone beneath my eye.

Don’t use retinol too close to eyes. Do use sunscreen daily if you use retinol!

I went to a medical dermatologist and he burnt mine all off with a thin laser. It is a little painful but over in a millisecond. I was so so happy that I found this option!

Userxx thanks!!
They are older teens so when I am able to- I will look into it.

I have one on my bottom eyelid and I can see it when I look in a certain direction. It bugs the hell out of me

Goldieloxx · 25/01/2021 22:53

Muslin cloth and rub very lightly, mine came off in a day after I did it, be very gentle though

Defiantly41 · 25/01/2021 22:57

Mine (on lower lash line) disappeared after about a week of twice a day applying Alpha H glycolic acid on a cotton bud

Thanks everyone. I think issue is that they are so close to the eyes that some of the suggestions I don’t think I can do. A few do come and go but we always have maybe 15/20 on each eye and they cycle from flare up, settle, flare up. With generally one a time that is inflamed. I think going to the doctor for 1 and getting antibiotics isn’t going to fix it as it will fix that one or two but the cycle starts all over again..... welcome any other experiences or thoughts.
