Lighthouse coats?

I'm sure I've followed a link from here before. I really fancy this coat

www.lighthouseclothing.co.uk/products/long-iona-padded-raincoat-grey

It's very reasonably priced but I don't want to shell out again next year. I want to streamline my cost collection and only keep the decent ones.

It's for dog walking and school run (if I ever get to do that again). To replace other coats I have which are blatantly too short in wet weather!!

I have a couple of Lighthouse jackets and would recommend, nice quality and I've never got wet through wearing one!

I have this coat in Navy, I bought it after looking at several others. It’s my go to coat for winter weather, so cosy. In fact I’m just about to put it on to go on a snowy walk. I like the two pockets, one for easy access and the other more secure. Internal pockets are great for phone, keys money.
I’m tempted to buy another one!

ChippyDucks150 · 25/01/2021 10:45

I've had a couple of Lighthouse coats over the years and highly recommend them.

nevernotstruggling · 25/01/2021 10:59

Ah great! I needed to question because they are very reasonable!! I shall order it when I get paid 😀

What is the sizing like? I keep getting adverts on Facebook and am tempted

Beebumble2 · 25/01/2021 13:37

I’m a 12, but got a 14 as it’s padded on the inside. Fits well.

bluedomino · 25/01/2021 14:00

I've found Lighthouse clothes are made for tall, thin people not short, women who definitely aren't straight up and down. There is very little shaping to accommodate hips and bum. Also the sizes go up but the arms stay the same size. I had a brecon top and it was uncomfortably tight over my upper arms but very long sleeves. If you have long hair, it catches in the bloody stupid zip on the back of the tops. If you look at the super skinny models, the coats look really tight over their arms. One photo it looks like she couldn't bend her arm and touch her face! Lovely colours but only made for skinnier.

LooseMooseHoose · 25/01/2021 14:35

I'm 5'4 and curvy in the real sense of the word: big hips and boobs and waist 2 sizes smaller. I have the lighthouse long drovers coat and it is a perfect fit. I don't recognise the issue @bluedomino mentions about not being shaped for hips/boobs, perhaps that is individual product dependent.

I use mine for dog walking and horse riding and have never got wet, although I recognise the design is much more agricultural than most people will need!

nevernotstruggling · 25/01/2021 14:43

I'm 5'4 and a size 12. I ordered at 12 but it was free shipping so I'm not that fussed if I have to exchange the size.

I will report back!! I have ordered out of frustration that my expensive north face coat is so bloody short and useless.

Well LooseMooseHoose, my comment wasn't that it wasn't shaped for big boobs. My comment was Lighthouse doesn't cut for HIPS and BUM. If you have a big chest and hips then you are not pear shaped so its easier to get clothes that fit. Big boobs will even your figure out. For me to get a coat that will zip up over my hips and bum and not have loads of extra fabric around my back and chest is impossible. I'm also shorter than you so maybe that doesn't help. I can only speak from experience and their clothes are definitely tight around the arms. The models on the website do not look like they could wear a thick jumper under their coats. I find Sea Salt or Whitestone cut far more flattering. Also we were discussing the Iona coat, which has not got any vents unlike a riding jacket. But I wouldn't use a Lighthouse jacket for riding, mine is a cheap Rydale one.

LooseMooseHoose · 27/01/2021 09:49

@bluedomimo sorry, I appear to have touched a nerve... Hmm

I was just adding my experience of Lighthouse coats to help the OP get her sizing correct. We are obviously different shapes and have experience if different lighthouse products so it's all useful information. My coat is the drovers coat (not a vented riding jacket whatever that means), and therefore relies on the fit being good, particularly as it goes down to my mid calf. It flatters me better (and keeps me drier in the sideways rain on the moors) than my previous Rydale drovers coat, which is exactly the reason I mentioned my height and shape in my response. The OP didn't mention being pear shaped.

OP, I hope you like your coat!

nevernotstruggling · 28/01/2021 10:41

Hi folks the Iona has arrived.
My first impressions are it's a really nice coat. The dds like it and they are harsh critics!

I ordered a 12. Length wise it's great. The arms are more close fitting than the tunic part of it though which is odd.

I need to try it on after work with a few jumpers and see if the arms are too narrow. I have quite slim arms I was surprised!

The padding is fab though. I think for walks in this weather I wouldn't need a bulky hoodie anyway.

I like the double pockets they are great. One for placing hands in and one with w flap for keys and lead.

I like their coats, good quality and not too expensive. Kids ones they do are very good as well.

Beebumble2 · 28/01/2021 11:50

I find mine warm enough not to wear a thick jumper underneath. I like the slightly padded arms. When I was looking someone warned me off getting a coat without warm lining in the sleeves, as theirs was cold.
I also like the cosy lined hood.

greenleaf5 · 28/01/2021 12:40

Are these coats warm? I am permanently outside with a toddler and new born so need something warm and practical!

Beebumble2 · 31/01/2021 12:51

I find mine just as warm as my puffer coat and in fact prefer it.
