Shampoo/conditioner recommendation - oily roots but dry mid to ends

Hi,

Wondering if anyone has any recommendations for my hair - as above, I have oily roots but definitely dry rest-of-hair.
Hair is quite long and I’d like to get away with washing it twice a week if I can - I’m a new mum and that’s all I can manage usually!
Of the things I’ve tried, my hair either becomes greasy again too quickly or the main bit of my hair is very dry straight away. I’m looking for luscious locks! Hair is starting to fall out a little bit following the birth of my LO but not loads...yet.

I’ve tried all sorts. Don’t mind spending a bit more for the right stuff.

Thank you!

I've used the loreal stuff that comes in a green bottle. Clay something I think? Sorry I can't remember! It was good though.

After you wash your hair only condition the bits that get dry. The first night after washing spray dry shampoo along the hair line and down the parting. Sleeping helps distribute it and I wake up with none oily hair. After trying everything I now use 2 in 1 head and shoulders shampoo and Aussie miracle conditioner, Batisse dry shampoo. I normall only need to wash my hair twice a week and it’s in really good condition. Not cut it since last March, it’s 1/2 way down my back and looks good.

Oh and occasionally get rid of build up with watered down Fairy washing up liquid. I kid you not. Maybe once every 6-8 weeks

I use conditioner then shampoo, this seems to help me with this issue. I don’t condition each time either.

It’s a cheap one but I’m quite enjoying the Pantene hair biology cleanse and reconstruct shampoo. I have greasy roots and hair which is very long so can get quite dry. I don’t use conditioner at all and never have really, but I use lots of John Frieda frizz ease instead. Not to sound like an arsehole but I am often complimented on my hair. Wash every day.

How do you wash your hair? Shampoo and conditioner all over is not correct. You should shampoo the roots only, and condition the lengths only. The shampoo run off when you rinse it out is enough to cleanse the ends - shampooing these thoroughly strips the natural oils away, and the roots do not need conditioning as the scalp produces natural oils. I use Garnier Ultimate Blends Repairing Hair Food.

Also, roots become greasy if you touch them alot, so if that is something you do try to avoid.

I use Moroccan Oil on my lengths after I've washed my hair. It's really moisturised them and stopped breakages.

Thanks for the tips and suggestions everyone - going to try these washing techniques to use up what I have and then go on a Boots online spree!
