If you have naturally long wavy hair...

...how do you dry it? Style it? What products do you use? Mine is slightly wavy and prone to looking tatty as I'm usually windswept when not in lockdown. I love to make the most of it when I eventually get to a hairdresser and have something more polished or at least less tatty. My hair is quite fine but there's lots of it. Photo attached of it brushed to within an inch of its life by dd but gives the idea on the paucity of wave when brushed. Diffuser and mousse equals 80s extravaganza by the way Grin it's about halfway down my back in length.

Layers
No styling
no drying
conditioner only for most washed let it curl

nancybotwinbloom · 22/01/2021 22:06

This oil is amazing.

You can use it wet or dry and it is not greasy at all in your hair.

Leave it til almost dry which is a wild wavy frizzy mess and then a quick blow-dry straight or use straighteners to get loose curls.

Notashandyta · 22/01/2021 22:15

Dont use shampoo, just conditioner

purplemunkey · 22/01/2021 22:25

I use Noughty hair products - Wave Hello shampoo & conditioner. Wrap hair in cotton t-shirt or microfibre towel. After 30 mins or so I use a small amount of taming cream, scrunch and then let air dry. I comb the conditioner through and the taming cream but otherwise a comb doesn’t go near my hair. And definitely not a brush. I haven’t used a hair dryer in years either. Brushes and/or heat just cause frizz for me! Embrace the waves Smile

AnneLovesGilbert · 22/01/2021 22:30

Mine’s similar but just be now bra length (shorter than yours?) and very thick.

I use solid shampoo and very cheap conditioner for dry hair, twice a week. Elvive extraordinary oil once towel dried, blast fringe with the dryer and don’t touch the rest till it’s dry. I wear it up quite a lot but it’s bouncy and wavy when it’s down and the oil makes it really soft.

AnneLovesGilbert · 22/01/2021 22:30

I only brush it before washing it.

Wash
Only brush parting
Use fingers to detangle when wet
Apply argan oil hair stuff
Scrunch up curls
Air dry
I get a lot of compliments and no split ends at all.

plumpootle · 22/01/2021 22:40

My hair is identical to yours OP. I swear by Dyson air wrap

thethoughtfox · 22/01/2021 22:57

I use an at home Brazilian Straightening treatment that I saw recommended on here. Game changer.

FlatteredRhubardFool · 22/01/2021 23:16

I'll try the argan oil and micro fibre towel wrap thing in the morning. I can't not wash it. The most I can do is alternate days. I get sweaty and my scalp feels awful if it's not washed. I often let it dry naturally but it still looks scraggly. It really needs a good cut as I haven't had a good cut in a over year now. I had a trim in December but I didn't want to spend any longer than necessary in the salon. When it's safe for me to go I will and might treat myself to a proper wash, cut and blow dry rather than my usual wet cut. I wash it and then twist it into a bun with a bobble and leave it there as it gets in my way now that it's so long. When I take the bobble out at night the waves are fantastic at the back but I'd like more definition around my face. I'll post a picture of how it goes tomorrow.

I have long very thick wavy hair and a GHD glide has been a total game changer for me. A quick run through and it's smooth and polished looking. It's been a great investment after years of trying every product going.....

PBJelly · 23/01/2021 08:51

Your hair colour is lovely.

I have similar hair to you I think - fine but lots of it so overall it’s a nice thickness. Mine is maybe less wavy. I have it shorter than you at shoulder length and I have layers in. The layers help give it more shape, and separate the waves a bit.

I wash it every day (I exercise every day so need to). Shampoo and Conditioner from Davines.

I usually just put it up in a micro fibre towel to dry a bit whilst I get dressed, then take it out and leave it to air dry. The main thing that makes a difference is not touching it at all whilst it dries. If I touch it too much it is prone to going a bit more messy looking. I sometimes use the Oribe wave balm which is nice.

PBJelly · 23/01/2021 08:52

I have a Glide too @alphaechokiwi. I really like it too - I don’t use it loads but it’s quick to use and gives a polished look without the flatness that some straighteners give.

OwlLovesTea · 23/01/2021 08:55

YEH, i've started shampooing it only about every second time I wash my hair and I only wash my hair about once every six days. It takes a while to get used to the heavy feel of it, but for years my hair was so soft and fluffy and I used to wonder why it wouldn't even hold a parting.
Bluntness100 · 23/01/2021 08:55

I straighten three quarters of it, and use a straightening product as it remains smooth for a couple of days after, and then curl the ends with a curling tong

I used to make it all curly, for me wavey also looks tatty. My hairs long but fine, left to it’s own devices it doesn’t look good at all.

DinosaurDiana · 23/01/2021 08:58

I use Frizz Ease conditioner. Comb it with a wide toothed comb when wet, then leave it to dry naturally and comb it again.
Sometimes I put a bit of oil on.
I found that the more I did to it, the worse it looked.

Starlight39 · 23/01/2021 09:31

I have v similar hair and cut out silicones by using products like noughty or Shea moisture (the purple “10in 1” type is good). I wide tooth comb very gently upside down at the end of my shower then add a little leave in conditioner. I use umberto giannini curl jelly when I take the microfibre wrap off then dry naturally. It gives shiny waves and I haven’t seen a split end for years despite not cutting my hair often. With the silicone free, I find I now only need to wash every 3 days so in between washes, I add a tiny bit of the curl jelly to wet hands and smooth over to get rid of frizzy bits.

FlatteredRhubardFool · 23/01/2021 10:36

@PBJelly thank you, it took me until I was 30 to like my hair colour. It used to be more red but has become blonder as I've got older and is now some sort of golden colour I guess. The sun bleaches it massively since I hit 40Hmm but I'm outdoors a lot of the day normally so I guess it will do and hence the windswept.
I don't often brush or comb it. I use a wide toothed comb in the shower with conditioner. The children like to mess with my hair and do funky styles but that's not often.

My hair is kind of like Gisele's, I mainly don't brush it too much & leave it to dry naturally.

gasgig · 23/01/2021 10:38

Oh & I have layers at the front

gasgig · 23/01/2021 10:40

I don't have layers all the way through as I have long hair & prefer the blunter edge of that makes sense.

goose1964 · 23/01/2021 12:39

I only shampoo my roots, conditioning only is too heavy. I only brush with a tangle teaser when it gets clumsy otherwise I use my fingers. No styling products apart from a curl cream occasionally and air dry

FlatteredRhubardFool · 23/01/2021 15:19

It just lacks any definition and is fluffy. That's how it is when left to it's own devices with argan oil stuff.
