Dress for a vow renewal on a beach.

Never posted on this board before but I figure it’s the best place.

DH and I are renewing our vows in 2023 when we’ll be at 15 years. I know people think it’s tacky and automatically assume it’s down to an affair. It’s not but we have had a very rocky 2020 and we’ve come through it stronger and would like to reaffirm that. We had a very small initial wedding so plan to do it a little more our way this time. Hence the beach...somewhere warm Grin.

So the dress-it needs to be suitable for warm and beach, I’m 5’8, a size 10 and not busty. Budget of around £250-350. I am open to any colour but would definitely like a small train. It definitely can’t have a low back I will probably need some form of bra (I refer you to the not busty bit). Don’t like off the shoulder either...it feels odd to me.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Love the Ghost dress!

I’d never assume an affair for a vow renewal. My Grandparents renewed their vows on their 65th anniversary- my Grandmother had been diagnosed with a terminal illness, it was important to them and such a lovely day. I’m glad we all have that memory!

No one will assume either of you have cheated that's so weird

Have a lovely time choosing where you want to go and what you want to wear.
You have plenty of time to choose.

@SomersetHamlyn our vows haven’t expired. But no reason why we can’t have the wedding we want 15 years on...our last one was a £600 registry office affair. And like I said we had a tough year relationship wise. We’d like to do this and just reaffirm those vows.

I will look at monsoon-wasnt sure if ASOS would be good quality?

Alice Temperley does gorgeous floaty dresses. There are different ones depending on your budget.
Look on her website but John Lewis also do a lot of the ones under £200

Local boutiques always do those lovely floaty items so worth looking.

There's a lovely boutique who sells online called 'Liberty's' fashion based in Orpington, Kent. You can find them via Facebook or instagram and you can contact them re sizing etc. She has such amazing taste and gorgeous items that are much loved and easy to wear. You'll definitely find some lovely items

Do you think a dress maker could remove the sleeves on this ?

Possibly, but I think you'd melt in that much nylon and polyester in a hot country.

JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam · 23/01/2021 13:51

That’s true. I’ll keep looking.

Whistles has some lovely ones

I’d go for it op. On MN people tend to slate weddings abroad I have no idea why, perhaps jealousy. I would recommend having the ceremony late and then it won’t be too hot. You will be fine wearing a ‘proper’ wedding dress. Nothing too tight, the loser layers will be more comfortable and I would wear your hair up (unless it’s short anyway).

Sezane had the most gorgeous low key bridal dress. It was so nice i was considering getting divorced and remarried again just to wear it Grin. I will see if I can find it.

BackwardsGoing · 23/01/2021 17:06

The Ghost dress is beautiful but unless you're 20 years old and stick thin you'd probably want to wear some kind of smoothing undergarment, which would be hot!

I'd go for something floatier.

What do people think to this? The trust pilot reviews are mostly okay-I’d order on my credit card for section 75 protection.

@BackwardsGoing not 20 and whilst I possibly come under the stick thin (I guess it depends on your barometer) ....I do have the left over residue from having four children...so would need sucky in pants!

@JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam I'm sure you have a fabulous figure but even the most svelte of us have lumps and bumps. I think it's important to have a dress you can just enjoy wearing, not worrying you'll be caught at an unflattering angle or that you can't scoff some wedding cake in.

Silky fabrics are are pretty unforgiving. Something more chiffon-y would be lovely.

@BackwardsGoing I agree with you completely. If silk is unforgiving then I’ll leave that alone. I wouldn’t say I have a fabulous figure...thick thighs and hip dips you could lose a football pitch in Grin. Like I said it depends on your barometer though when it comes to the description svelte. That was what I was trying to get at.
If it helps I am reasonably tall and despite being a size 10 am still pear shaped and I do have a small muffin top. I’ll see if I can find a picture I don’t mind sharing to the world that gives an idea.

My friend got married in an ASOS bridal jumpsuit and looked amazing! I have bought a couple of formal dresses from them and quality was pretty good. Although one dress was cut weirdly. Luckily, they have very easy returns, so if they are crap you can just post it back.

Milly Bridal have been around a long time and I've heard good and bad about them. When I was on wedding forums years ago, a few people used them for designer 'dupes' because they basically steal designs. If you're unhappy with the dress, you'll spend more sending it back than the dress is worth. Might be worth using Paypal, so you can at least try to claim money back.
