It will cost you more than you think, and that bargain will turn out to be very expensive.

@tommika many thanks for the summary. Do you know if it is possible for an EU based seller to collect and pay (to the government) UK VAT even on orders above £135? So the order ships with VAT and duties paid?

I’m asking because I e-mailed several websites to ask, and some indicated that they would be doing this, so there would be no change to my shopping experience from my point of view (other than shipping delays).

I’m not certain - but it ought to be possible.

For over £135 sales the overseas seller doesn’t have to register, but a seller that has registered could in theory collect the VAT

It would mean that they have to reserve the extra money and account for it in quarterly payments to HMRC

The duty might be manageable too, but that adds some complexity to what rate applies and how they will account for it and pay it
More red tape for them - but no carrier admin fee

DDP or DDU. the seller can chose which one to ship with.
Some sellers are choosing DDP so they don't lose sales. Don't think this is viable long term though.

And unless you contact the website seller there's no way of knowing which country their warehouse the goods are actually shipping is in.
A web address means nothing.

*Oh but that's just moaning- no it's facts. Which leavers refused to believe. Well we left a free trade zone. What do you expect to happen? Of course there will be barriers to trade. Permanent ones.
Funny how all the leavers aren't coming on these threads eh.

I ordered from Bravissimo in early January after they re-started delivering to the EU and the package arrived without any extra duty.

Before Christmas France was demanding customs labels be completed for all UK stuff and had changed their postal regions for packets to France and rest of the world, so needing recorded delivery, customs forms etc, but something in a jiffy bag for the UK went as a letter and didn't need recorded delivery or a customs declaration. Think they're making it up as they go along.

The company I work for delivers DDP, this was in place pre Brexit and will stay in place.

But transit times from the EU to UK have more than doubled, the courier network can't cope and we are seeing delays to orders. There are many companies that have not got the correct set up in place to sell from EU to UK.

We are considering setting up a new UK warehouse to serve the significant business we have in the UK but hopefully as more companies find their way through the new rules things will settle down.

I won't be ordering from the UK anymore- it just won't be financially viable Sad

Thismustbelove · 27/01/2021 17:51

I just declined custom charges on my Hush order. Another €27 on top of the Irish prices which already far exceed the UK prices when converted on XE currency exchange. The order was split so no doubt further charges with the remainder of the order which I will also decline.

Anybody know where to buy Hush type clothes on EU sites?

LadyEloise · 28/01/2021 15:36

VAT will have to be paid on nearly all purchases over €22 from UK as well as big delivery charges, no free returns and the difference in price in Euro from Sterling.
That's why I won't be ordering from UK websites anymore.
Sad
