Inconsistent sodding sizing

Bought 3 dresses and a top online in the Topshop sale, all in the same size. Just tried on.
Dress 1. Good start. Fitted like a dream. Happy me.
Dress 2. Incredibly tight around the middle. Must have been around 2 inches tighter around the stomach than dress 1. Look like bulging sausage roll.
Dress 3. So loose around the top it wouldn't even stay on shoulders.
Top. Couldnt get it over my head it was so tight.

It's annoying enough when it's different companies, but from the same shop Angry especially now we obviously cant try anything on it's really putting me off buying anything.

A lot of these companies are in trouble, and they're really not helping themselves when you cant rely on the sizing. In a similar rant, PUT THE LENGTH IN THE ONLINE DESCRIPTION.

completely agree, its so frustrating. especially at the moment when we're having to rely on online shopping. sometimes it depends on the material i find Confused

Hear hear! All this moaning about sales going down, but no effort going into making shopping online (or even in shops) predictable and dependable.

Your size guide has body measurements. Use those (not other, made up numbers), when you design your patterns.

Your finished garment has measurements and a certain amount of ease. Post those. Front rise of trousers, waist width, hip width and at what point under the waist that is, length of sleeves, length of skirt/dress (there is a special place in hell for those who just put "knee length" or similar), bust size.

Learn all those "archaic" terms for the details of clothes and descripe the clothes with them. Raglan sleeves or just dropped sleeves? Peter Pan collar or button down? Flared skirt with gores (how many?) or a-line? Trousers are ankle length, palazzo or just wide, capri?

Don't make me search for material composition you sneaky feckers.

Model clothes on a thin model and on a fatter model, please. Helps me make my mind up. Say what size and how tall the model is. Helps us imagine garment on us, thank you. Don't lie.

Add pockets that work.

Use better quality fabric and more natural fabric.

Don't make everything in only black, beige or either pink or icy blue (this is a Sweden specific problem).

Perhaps look into sizes that vary depending on bust fullness. Can't be that bloody hard, several companies have done it by now.

And don't charge for returns - Lands End I'm looking at you!

I feel your pain, I needed new bras. 6 months pregnant and whilst I’ve not gained a huge amount of weight my rib cage has expanded.

Did my boob or bust size, usually wear a 32F but now a 34E. Ordered 3 from figleaves. 2 fit absolutely perfectly and one I could get my head in! Surely a 34E should be a 34E?

This absolutely although if they refuse to admit what it is - chances are it is bloody viscose. The stuff is everywhere!

Weird how the sizing of identical things can differ - between different colour trousers of same style!

MoltenLasagne · 22/01/2021 15:21

So agree OP, I don't care if a 40" hip is a size 8, 12 or 16 in your brand but tell me what it is and actually stick to it so I have some chance of getting stuff that fits.

I ordered a small t shirt which was supposedly 34" bust and was swamped. Measured it and it was 22" across so 10" of ease???

goose1964 · 22/01/2021 17:01

It would be better if they put the actual size of the garment, like they do with men's.

MaryLennoxsScowl · 22/01/2021 17:20

And if you’re going to charge £200 for something, Toast, can you at least provide a) more than one bloody photo, b) the photo actually on a model, and c) front and back photos at minimum, so I can see what the bum looks like? Three photos of the model curled into the foetal position are not helpful, Zara. And put it with some shoes that you might actually wear, rather than winter trousers with sandals, Cos.

I think three models, smallest size, biggest size and middle size. If the model is 5ft 9 and a size 10 I can no more tell what it might look like on me at 5ft 5 and a size 6 than if I was a size 14.
