I've been trying for ages (since Lockdown 1.0) to get on board with lipsticks. I've never worn them before and always hated them; I'd rather draw attention to my eyes and keep lips bare. I always thought they would make me look dreadful (I'm not very experienced with make-up).
But I've started to really see what people are talking about when they say it lights up their face, and how it can look really good. And particularly with social media stylists recommending them, and people saying it looks good on Zoom/Teams, I've been determined to try.
I've been reading loads on here and trying to find the best colours for me (I'm trying to get into red, though it still scares me...). And I ordered a few online that I thought would work.
Well, the result was disastrous. I looked like a clown. The colours didn't transfer well onto my lips (too pink, too dark, too shiny, too glittery, etc.), and I wondered if it was all futile and my inner voice did an 'I told you so' dance. My lips with lipstick on are overly 'crepey' and quite small, and nothing like the images other people post.
But before giving up, I watched a Lisa Eldridge video someone posted on one of the S&B threads about lipstick, and followed her advice to apply using a lip brush instead. Oh. My. God. It changes the colour, texture, and entire look completely.
I might now be a lipstick obsessive convert. If anyone is trying to get into lipstick and is only applying it directly, try a brush!
