I have shoulder length brown hair & very grey roots. Seems like its going to be a long time til I can get to a hairdresser so box dye recommendations please. Havent used one for years and I always found they came out far too dark regardless of colour choice

I have dark brown hair (darker than yours, not so much red in it) and lots of grey. I’ve been using Superdrug own brand for years and can recommend it.

Hi op your hair looks lovely! Do you want permanent or semi? I don’t have much experience with permanent dye but have used a lot of L’Oréal creme casting Casting gloss which I love! They have lovely red shades too and don’t damage your hair. Hope this helps! :)

Glitterandglow · 19/01/2021 16:23

Meant to say the creme casting is semi permanent

Thank-you, an ad for that just came on TV as I was reading this. I read the reviews for the Superdrug one but sounds like its very runny/messy so maybe not what I'm looking for. Not sure where the red has come from, must be the light Blush

I usually go for permanent (best thing to cover greys). I use Clarol or Nutrisse.

I honestly don't find the Superdrug dye runny or messy at all. I don't even bother with a towel over my shoulders, it never drips. It's the permanent dye I use.

I've used other brands which are more expensive but find them much of a muchness. I have to dye my hair every four weeks now (sigh) so I'm happy to take the cheaper option!

I bought a John Frieda ash brown and l'm sold. Comes out as a mousse so limited mess. There is no red in my hair - it doesn't seem to matter what shade of brown l go for, it comes out with red tints. It's a bit stinky but it didn't make my scalp tingle. My hair feels lovely and shiny too.

I used Superdrug Semi Permanent in 7.73 after a few trials with the mid brown tones .
You do need to patch test and allergy test , and the colour does tend to come out darker than you think.
My hair is near your colour , the 7.73 gave me golden tones on my grey hair .

I don't dye now , embracing the grey !

You have a lovely hair colour. Mines slightly darker and for years I’ve been using Nice and Easy, I have grey roots too. I find it gives me subtle tones too so not just a block colour. I use medium brown which might be too dark for you.

Just a wee update. I went for the John Frieda precision foam colour. So easy to use & great grey coverage. Much cheaper than a salon colour obviously but a great result. Thanks for all the suggestions
