Waxing - novice at 34

Wanting some advice really. I have never waxed, never, anywhere and I'm contemplating waxing down there but don't know if i should.
I have issues with shaving and removal creams and always seem to end up with rashes, small puss spots, ingrown hairs etc. It all ends up quite horrible looking and dents my confidence.
I want to feel good about myself after having 2 kids, but worry it's too late to start waxing, it'll be horrific, the beautician will be horrified as I'm total natural right now (not even tidied! 😬)
I'm doing this for me and not for my husband (issues there which is a whole other story)
Advice please

Try a salon that does Lycon waxing as honestly this is a lot less painful (obviously when salons open again!)
Also you want the hair to be ‘natural’ like you describe as you will get the best results, so don’t worry about it. If they need to then they will trim!
As for ingrown hairs, I still got them after waxing, however I bought a spray that Lycon do and it’s brilliant for preventing them!

I started waxing down there at 40 OP, you are not too old to start! The lady who does mine didn't bat an eyelid when I showed up nervous and clueless (and hairy).
I use tea tree oil and tendskin to avoid ingrown hairs. I'm finding the regrowth is a lot softer now I've been doing it for a while, and I really like the effect.

I can’t remember having hair below. I think it was back in my teens. 40s now.

I would suggest speaking to them on the phone to see if they would prefer you to scissor trim first. Although as a PP mentioned they can do it on the spot if needs be.

If you want to go for all off, you may want to consider just having a Brazillian this time and waiting for your second appointment to go for a full Hollywood. Your body wiill be more used to things then.

The first time is the worst, after that, it’s fine. Suggest for your first time you take a couple of paracetamol beforehand.

Don’t let this put you off, a day or do afterwards, it feels lovely.

Thanks. I'll definitely look into lycon @glitterb

@nonflirtinghusband I'm glad I'm not too late, it feels like I am behind the times by a long way.

@starlightlady I don't think I'll be going all off, that's a bit too much for me. I'll take the tip of the paracetamol. Sometimes I'm not sure why I'm so nervous about the idea, I've had 2 kids one on just 2 paracetamol and he was over 9lb. Yet I tend to have a low pain threshold.

Just wanted to comment to say that this will be great for you. I have never been able to shave or use hair removal creams as i also get a painful post shaving rash with the wee spots you describe. I don't get any of that with waxing, but ideally you should keep the area exfoliated afterwards. Good luck - you absolutely won't look back.

NR1986 · 20/01/2021 21:13

@curlytops21 thanks. I feel like I need to psych myself up for it.
I hope dh doesn't automatically think it's for him as its totally for me. I've put on weight, had 2 kids, messed my body up quite a bit (hello prolapse and bladder issues) so just want to feel a bit epic.
Currently trying to get back to myself.

Don't underestimate how fabulous this will make you feel. It's not silly at all to feel lush and smooth for a nice change. My husband really doesn't care one way or another so I do this totally for myself too. You're absolutely worth it, so invest in yourself and you'll start feeling like the glam starlet you are.

Get some body polish and a lush body cream, and really go for it. I suffer from keratosis pilaris and my skin needs a LOT of tlc to be nice and smooth but it's totally worth it. Don't look back. 😘

Ps they see hairy foofs all day long so yours absolutely won't stand out! It's fairly undignified but doesn't take long and it's sooo worth it.

Angbunnyboo · 20/01/2021 21:38

It's one of the best things Ive ever had done. I love being smooth and hair free - it's driving me up the wall at the moment that salons are closed, but I shaved last lockdown and it hurt when I waxed so won't be making that mistake again.

It stings a bit but just breathe through it, just remember that its only a very temporary pain and after its done you will feel fabulous!

Have you ever heard of the philips lumea OP?

I've had a few bikini waxes, results didn't last long for me sadly, and I got some painful ingrown hairs. My lumea is amazing though, no more hairs or ingrown ones!
