Teeth

Am thinking of whitening my teeth but have a front crown. Are there any whitening products that could bring the rest of my teeth up to the colour of the crown so as to make it less obvious

Goodness are they your teeth ChrissyCarol? Daft question I know, it's late. no I am not being sarcy. I wish I had teeth like yours. It is just that I am having trouble with missing fillings a bad tooth that need to come out and trying to count having yellowing front teeth as a blessing. would never dare to smile like that even to myself in a mirror. I am quite genuine I think your smile looks great. But I know nothing of treatments so you must do what makes you happy.

ChrissyCarol · 19/01/2021 07:50

cateycloggs yes they are. Are they unusual? The inside of my mouth is full of metal fillings (can't afford private white ones)

I feel like I'm surrounded by bright young things with perfect white teeth (I'm 58) and my teeth pictured above have greyed. I think it might be because the enamel wears thin with age and they become a bit more transparent if that makes sense. I just want the teeth to look closer in colour to the crown really so it doesn't look as obvious that i gave a false tooth

Sorry ChrissieCarol not to reply sooner, not unusual at all or only, and given we are about the same age , unusually attractive, I would say. You may have fillings inside as I do , but mine broke off and came loose and need to be removed with a rotten tooth and a denture made so I am just envious.

But I understand about seeing younger people's perfect white teeth, I felt like that at the dentist , they were all lovely. I don't go out to work now but when I was going out was reluctant to smile with open mouth because my front teeth are so discoloured. But good luck if you have treatment

Snackz · 19/01/2021 10:21

I'm actually very jealous of your teeth! Shock

cateycloggs · 19/01/2021 10:32

There you see it's not just me, I thought I was being very forward or something.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 19/01/2021 10:46

Agree your teeth look lovely OP. Clean and natural - I'd kill for mine to look that good!

Actually as non cosmetically treated teeth go I'd "age" you in your late 30s, just on teeth alone!

I know what you mean about the young 'uns looking like Colgate ads though Confused so I'm also loitering for product recs as like you I've got a front crown and I worry about mine too.

greenemerald · 19/01/2021 10:50

Ideally to get it done at the dentists so they can match the crown colour to the rest of the teeth! Eitner in-house whitening or could get trays made and use syringes on all the teeth except the crown. Use little by little until they brighten up enough to match. I think it's best talking to your dentist though.

OneMoreForExtra · 19/01/2021 11:01

Mine have greyed too similar effect, plus I'm a coffee and red wine fan, which doesn't help. I've tried various of the home treatments to very little effect. The best option for me was having a whitening treatment in a spa on holiday for a fraction of the price and faff here, which might become an option again sometime in the future but obviously doesn't help now. The thing i use now is iWhite toothpaste from Boots- expensive but foes make a gradual difference. I'll be following for more clues!

Chalkcheese · 19/01/2021 11:08

IME whitening natural teeth does not make them match the crown and can damage your tooth enamel making your teeth look thinner and greyer. I would get them well cleaned for any stains, and use a whitening toothpaste once a week, but I'm not sure it will make them match. Really to match the crown completely you'd need crowns or veneers and I think that's a shame when your teeth are very nice already. (Also expensive!)

Don't try and match the shining white of celebrities most of them have some degree of cosmetic dentistry. A lot of them have almost no unaltered teeth at all and a mouth full of expensive veneers

ChrissyCarol · 19/01/2021 20:12

Thanks for all the messages. Am sure that when I first got the crown it matched my other teeth more. Have asked the dentist but cosmetic work isn't been done atm. I use whitening toothpaste. It makes little difference. I've used it for ages. I fid, long ago, buy whitening strips online (probably from the US) - I can't recall the brand and these worked a little better but then my teeth colour just reverted over time.

It will cost you to have a dentist do it properly. Save up and have dentist to whiten them, though they may end up whiter than the Crown

earsup · 19/01/2021 22:41

my dentist doesnt do whitening etc....says its bad for gum erosion...i am always wary of dentists that have waiting rooms full of cosmetic treatments....a really good air clean and polish will bring teeth up to a nice colour but yours look fine...better than mine....I sometimes use Zaberry strips...a bit hard to find now but excellent.

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind · 20/01/2021 00:04

@ChrissyCarol I think you have lovely teeth, I'm 32 and I'd love to have straight teeth like yours, and I think they look lovely and clean as well. Ok not bright white but all I think when I see glowing teeth is veneers, I don't ever think they look real. Or I think of that episode of friends with Ross' teeth.

I do get it when it's something you're not personally happy with. But what's the saying, something about perfect being the enemy of good? I'd just keep on top of hygienist appointments and maybe use a whitening toothpaste if I were you.

Vivenne · 20/01/2021 00:12

You have lovely teeth OP. The best "cheap" teeth whitening I've come across is the Colgate max white teeth whitening toothpaste, it's about £20 from boots.

catlovingdoctor · 20/01/2021 00:16

A word against whitening toothpastes- they contain rough particles which strip the protective enamel away, exposing the yellow dentine beneath. Gels used in professional whitening work differently without causing this damage.

Anotheruser02 · 20/01/2021 09:44

Have you tried the enamel re building types? I'm tempted to try this but I've never spent £10 on a toothpaste before.

OllyBJolly · 20/01/2021 09:56

You have beautiful teeth. I wouldn't risk anything that might spoil them.

WellIWasInTheNeighbourhoo · 20/01/2021 10:18

Crest whitening strips work, you can get them on ebay usually. They are quite strong though and have made my teeth sensitive for a day or so after, I use sensodyne to help with this. I wear them at night for a day or so until I get the colour I want.

ChrissyCarol · 20/01/2021 19:06

Not tried enamel building toothpaste, no.

Am now pretty sure I may have tried the online whitening strips - Crest rings a bell though am sure I only wore them for 30 mins or so
