Quick one ... Bin or keep trying?

I’ve used a face cream for years (on and off), have recommended it in here too. Recently opened new day cream and it stings like mad. Stopped using it for a month or so but have now given it another go. Still stinging and a bit itchy. Opened the night cream last night. Same.

Do I keep at it, in hope of “getting used to it again” or just bin? £40 spent, which isn’t a lot but I just don’t understand why all of a sudden it’s turned in me!

Bin? I hate waste but bought from Lookfantastic so, no returns.

It's a shame but don't keep trying, your poor skin won't thank you!

Snackz · 17/01/2021 17:43

£40 is a lot but please don't continue using it Sad

RockaLock · 17/01/2021 17:46

Have you started using anything else on your face, that could have made it more sensitive/reactive?

To avoid waste you could try using it up, but just not on your face - use as hand cream or body lotion or something instead.

PawPawNoodle · 17/01/2021 17:49

Which cream is it?

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 17/01/2021 17:51

Probably either a change of ingredient, or maybe your skin has changed. I wouldn't keep using it.

Floisme · 17/01/2021 17:52

Bin bin bin. I once tried persevering and I've had sensitive skin ever since.

EleanorRigbyWasReal · 17/01/2021 17:53

@Snackz... it IS a lot isn’t it? I’d switched to. I’ve a Q10 from the Saver shop in these hard times but “treated myself” to my favourite cream when it was running out.

I might use it in my feet. They’re in need of a little TLC these days!

@dudsville and @RockaLock... no, nothing new. Today, my hairline is all itchy. My face is trying to tell me something.

It’s not doing you any good so I’d give it to a friend or sell on eBay. Especially the unopened one.

They generally have a two year unopened shelf life right enough so you could keep the new one and see if your skin changes, but I think it won’t. It’s probably a new ingredient.

Jedstre · 17/01/2021 18:18

Definitely don’t use it. Your skin is worth more than the £40 you paid for the product. Sensitivities and allergies can develop even after years of being totally fine with something.

EleanorRigbyWasReal · 17/01/2021 19:59

It may be that an ingredient has changed. Whatever it is, I’ll use it on my hands and feet.

😊

What cream was it?

I recently had a hideous reactio to a Boots product which I had never had before, and a colleague has had the same....

Readingandrighting · 17/01/2021 20:29

Use it on your body .

EleanorRigbyWasReal · 17/01/2021 21:12

Lancôme Zen

I had a read through its ingredients and nothing seems like it'd be a big irritator (there's a few useless shitty ingredients but nothing too terrible). I can't find anything about it being reformulated either so I'd say maybe you've developed an intolerance to an ingredients, such as the fragrances and colourants?

For something like that I'd probably give it to a family member or friend and see how they get on with it, it'll be a waste as a body moisturiser

BusterGonad · 18/01/2021 02:05

Can you take it to a Lancome counter and explain your issue? Surely bring their brand they have to take your concerns on board? Print out the receipt and see what they say. Failing that I also suggest give it to a friend, its such a waste to use on your feet.

BusterGonad · 18/01/2021 02:05

Or email lancome with a copy of the receipt and see what they say

1forAll74 · 18/01/2021 03:29

Just use it for hands, arms, legs or feet or anywhere else on your body.. Or give it away to a family member etc.

LunaNorth · 18/01/2021 03:36

I struggle with Lancôme too. Everything seems heavily fragranced, and it irritates my skin and eyes.

EleanorRigbyWasReal · 18/01/2021 08:47

Used it last night before bed as a hand cream. Lovely! Have to say, smells lovely and feels like a bit of a luxury for a hand cream but there’s no way I’d drive to a Lancôme counter in present times, with this. Seems trivial. Might email their Customer Services though, just to ask if the formulation has changed.

Due to COVID and far flung family, will use up on my hands and just won’t buy again. I’m loathe to “gift” any opened product to a friend.

I had this problem with Clinique a few years back. I know times were a little different then, but it was recommended to my by the Clinique sales assistant in the store.

So after it reacted to it, I emailed them and they refunded me.

It is definitely worth a try to contact them.
