Bikini wax aftermath, not sure this is entirely normal!!

Had my first bikini wax on Friday, ended up having a brazilian but it's still all covered in red spots and little whiteheads sorry if tmi but I need to know if this is normal?! I do have sensitive skin but my legs are always fine.

I haven't put anything on it until today when I put an afterwax lotion that I use on my legs in the hope that it might calm down...

Ouch!

Probably just sensitive and if it's your first it will be even more so.

Exfoliate in the shower as well, as this helps to stop ingrowing hairs.

MrsBadger · 28/10/2007 19:05

mine di this the fist time #I had it done as I was too cautious about temp of shower and exfoliating.
subsequent times I showered normally, exfoliated gently and used aloe vera gel, and all was fine

Blondilocks · 28/10/2007 20:33

What do u use to exfoliate after? Am trying to pluck up the courage to go & any info/tips would be greatly received!

Rumpel · 28/10/2007 20:40

Sounds like a reaction or infection to me. Put antiseptic cream on it (just a small amount) and any time you get it done in the future. Do not have a bath or shower for 12 hours after having it done and wear pants that do not rub on the area for 24 hours after waxing. Exfoliate regularly with scrub or shower flower or loofah. If you get suffer form ingrown hairs you can get a prodcut called Tend Skin which is good for preventing them.

Rumpel · 28/10/2007 20:40

Antispetic cream twice a day for about 3 days afterwards.

MrsBadger · 28/10/2007 20:42

just those scrubby glove things I normally use in the shower
but gently!

the no shower for 12hrs was what caused my first reaction...

woodenchair · 28/10/2007 20:42

I've been wondering about getting a wax down there but am worried about ingrown hairs.
Do you really use a loofah down there? Doesn't hurt?

WeeWitchyWilkie · 28/10/2007 20:47

You MUST gently exfoliate the area for at least 5 days afterwards otherwise you get ingrowing hairs (as you are experiencing).

Rumpel · 28/10/2007 20:47

Very gently - I tend to scrape my finger nail across the skin TBH = does the job.
You could use some sea salt mixed with olive oil. You are supposed to avoid shower/bath for 12 hours as you can get bacteria in the open hair follicle. You need to avoid sweaty activites too!

jellybelly25 · 28/10/2007 23:21

Ok... So I think I have gone about this all wrong! I didn't have a shower until next morning (24hr later) and I didn't put anything on it for two days. I may have done a little sweaty activity tho which i don't think helped

Will give the area some tlc! I'd like to do it again but not if it's gonna do this every time...

If you have sensitive skin then you are quite liable to get a rash (small red spots) for about 1-2 days after waxing. If you apply the antiseptic cream then it helps it to go away more quickly than it would otherwise.
Having a shower the next day is fine, just avoid a hot bath/shower for 12 hours afterwards. Also avoid tight pants, tights, tight clothing in area, sweaty activities, sundbeds/bathing for 12 hours after treatment and if you find you are prone to ingrown hairs (some people are due to hair type/skin type) then buy some Tend Skin to apply to the area.

Rumpel · 29/10/2007 09:46

PS They should have told you all this in the salon as aftercare advice. If you were not given after care advice I would seriously consider attending a new salon! Also make sure that the salon is clean, new spatula used for you, beauty therpaist wears gloves and applies clean tissue paper and cleanses area before and after treatment. If the salon does not follow proper hygiene the you will get probably get an infection - bleurgh!

Thanks everyone. Ive been exfoliating and putting savlon on and it's a lot better now. I might get some tend skin for next time. I'm now quite pleased with it really

I like this therapist, she's been so good with everything else, so I think I'll talk to her about it and give her a second chance. I dunno why she didn't give me any advice, it is out of character for her...

Hiya,

I get this from time to time after brazillian bikini waxing.. it mostly happens when the hair is a little longer. So if you want to maintain it, I'd advise getting it done every 4 weeks, then I don't get any reaction but if I leave it longer, I also get the spots coming up and it can take up to a week to get sorted.

Don't worry. I use savlon too and it tends to heal it up nicely.
