Dry hair help!

cheeseisthebest · 17/01/2021 14:18

Please help. I try not to wash my hair too much, every 3 to 4 days but in between it looks a total mess. Its naturally curly. Over the years I've tried hundreds of different products, I tried the Curly girl method for over a year but nothing helps with how dry it is. Can anyone suggest anything that will help?

Have you tried Moroccan Oil, it's really good. If you buy on Amazon be sure tilt is genuine as I've bought fake by mistake.

Vaticks egg protein mask is fab, but I can't get it on Amazon at the moment.

How do you apply your products- to damp hair or soaking wet? You need to try to seal in as much moisture as poss, so apply something rich and creamy to soaking wet hair, then wrap gently in a microfiber towel. No rubbing,no squeezing, just give it 5 mins or so, then air dry for as long as you can. Adding a gel on top really helps to give the curls some structure, and cut down on frizz. I love Cantu Curling cream, or Garnier Hair Food, and for gel, the Umberto Giannini one for curls is great

Try a tiny bit of coconut oil melted into your hands then scrunch the curls, or a tiny amount of conditioner.

Thank you, have tried Moroccan oil, I use microfiber towel. Tried all the products mentioned. Sad apply when soaking wet or damp. Nothing seems to help.
I have done vatika egg mask before but isnt that for protein not lack of moisture? I think its more of a moisture issue.

Trying to find what makes your curly hair look good is a life's work OP. I feel your pain Sad

AnnaMagnani · 17/01/2021 18:11

Ecoslay Banana Deep Conditioner. My current obsession. In fact am fairly obsessed with the whole range. My hair has never been this soft, moisturised and frizz free.

In between washes I wet my hair with my fingers and the hair just comes back to life again.

Have you tried Philip Kingsley Elasticizer?

Filipabg · 18/01/2021 13:44

Electric heated steam hair cap, which help tremendously to recover my curls. I mix Jamaican black castor oil ,Amla oil(or whatever you have),and 1spoon of glycerine(from pharmacy) After shower- in a spritz bottle put conditioner you use and 1-2 spoon of glycerine and filled up with water. While the hair is damp spray it this and leave to dry out.
I spray with this mixture during the week as well.

Fluffycloudland77 · 18/01/2021 16:26

Try aveda. Effective but quite pricey. But they tend to do what they say on the tin so to speak.

AluckyEllie · 18/01/2021 16:34

Are you in a hard water area? My hair is similar and it always improves when I go to my in-laws who have a water softener, or on holiday. Annoyingly we can’t afford a water softener at the moment so I’m having to put up with it!

Frequentflier · 18/01/2021 19:31

I have hair very similar to yours and have just tried Garnier Banana Hair Food as a leave in conditioner. Much recommended on here. I was wary of it because I do not like the smell of banana, but it really smells lovely and has cut down the frizz.

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 18/01/2021 19:37

My hair is just like yours and The Body Shop's ginger shampoo and conditioner have been a revelation for me - they're not made for dry hair but for dandruff. I only bought it because I was making gingerbread and thought how nice it would be to smell like that! It has left my hair shinier and in better condition than anything else has in 45 years. It's not that expensive - about £6 a bottle - but I find I get through it quickly because it doesn't leave my hair as lastingly clean as other things and I've switched to washing every other day rather than every third day but for the difference in condition I think it is worth it. I've started leaving it to dry naturally, too, and it seems to be preserving the curl really well as a side benefit.

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 18/01/2021 19:41

BTW, I realise that what I'm suggesting is basically the opposite of normal advice for dry curly hair but I'm equally the product of a lifetime search for good condition hair and I'm completely converted. It's worth a go for the 4-6 weeks a set of the smallish bottle will last and it really does smell nice in the meantime.

cheeseisthebest · 21/01/2021 20:32

Thank you so much, I will try that
