Rosacea skin care

I’ve always had bad skin but was diagnosed age 40 (11 yrs ago) with rosacea.

I have an ongoing prescription for lymecycline which I use when I have bad flare ups.

I’ve tried demalogica but it was too gentle and my pores were really blocked. I use Emma Hardie cleansing balm and eye treatment which I love, but struggling to find a good moisturiser.

My skin is dry and flaky and I often get blocked pores on my nose and chin. I also get pustules on and around my nose and chin.

I use Phoera foundation which really covers the redness. I’ve recently tried Dermalex which is ok but I’m not sure moisturising enough.

Give me your recommendations!

Thank you

Hiya @supercatlady! I also have rosacea - are you acne rosacea? I am, with atypical redness as well according to the derm. I don't use anything prescription anymore, the lymecycline didn't work and the Finacea lost efficacy after about a year. Nothing else had an effect.

So, nowadays, my face is pretty clear, I do a lot of skincare. I used The Ordinary skin peel every 3-4 days, and this mask from Superdrug as well. That one is gentler but still pretty strong - it made my face super duper red the first time I used it so I don't leave it on for so long anymore!

I am using some Korean skincare at the moment which my skin loves. My face feels like a baby's bottom, even if I do still have redness (mine is mainly broken veins and blemishes which are not pustules). I use Cosrx snail mucin straight after washing (Glossier jelly cleanser - rarely need anything else as not really wearing make up), then Purito scent free serum, then Centella gel cream with a dot of hyaluronic acid mixed in. I also use a dot or two of oil on my cheeks when they're dry, which they are at the moment. I can dig out the links for those products if you're interested, I got them from YesStyle.

For make up, I love Daniel Sandler watercolour blush. Gentle is like the exact colour to cover my redness and still not natural - today I just wore some of that, a bit of Glossier Stretch concealer on my nose and a dot of green CC cream from Erborian - fab brand, the BB cream is amazing but very pricey.

I have tried SO much (diagnosed about 4 years ago) happy to talk about it any time! Hope that's all helpful.

I use Soolantra cream (prescription) sparingly on flare ups and Cetaphil gentle cleanser and moisturising lotion. Only products my skin will tolerate

Look into the ordinary skin care range x

I use dermal cream from the GP to cleanse/wash with and blue Nivea to moisturise.
I have tried everything but this works for me. Weird that non perfumed stuff hurts my skin but Nivea doesn’t Hmm

Yes it’s acne rosacea - thank you, will look into those products.

I have a prescription for rosex, I use Emma Hardie 3 times a week, use Nivea wipes other nights, I’m using a moisturiser I discovered on a Spanish holiday - by Beaute Mediterranean with dragons blood in it. (Available at a price here, only €5 on holiday) Nothing else- and it’s kept it at bay.

Highly recommend the Kalme range. Very inexpensive and my skin is much much better when I use it consistently.

I have also been taking Lumity recently - it is expensive but I can definitely see a difference.

The rosacea is never gone though whatever I do!

Dermalex morning and night has massively helped mine.

Blue Nivea has been the best thing I've used for the dryness. I've only realised in the last year not wearing make up in lockdown wfh that the redness, etc are down to acne rosacea. I use the Emma Hardie cleansing balm too. I read some stuff about hydration v moisturising and tried Neutrogena Hydro Boost but although it seemed good at first my skin was very dry and flaky after a week or so.

I've had rosacea all my life but it has become more irritating in last 6 years. I've tried everything from prescription creams (no effect) to expensive potions (some made my skin burn). I stumbled across Honey Bee products and love them. Their moisturisers are lovely and soothing. The redness has reduced and if I have a flare up then a dab of Nurse Bee balm clears it up.

Not wearing makeup and avoiding the sun help too. I only wear make up occasionally now. Masks have not helped as they heat up the worse affected area of my face. I don't wear any makeup if I have to wear a mask.

I was diagnosed with Rosacea around 40 too. (3 yes ago) A 3 month Lymecycline course got it under control but then I had to really strip back what I use on my face due to reactions. Now I have a tendency towards a red nose, and little pimples in that area.
I use Mycellar water for cleansing and I use the REN ultra calm range. The serum and moisturiser and somethings the Rescue mask. I also find Olay moisturisers ok.
I use Ultra sun face factor 30 most days.
I use Pixi foundation and I've just started trying Stila One step correct to tone down colour.
I'm doing dry January at the moment and not unexpectedly but slightly depressingly I think that is making a big difference.
It's all on the more expensive side compared to what I used to spend but if I'm fairly conscientious about it it does help and my skin reacts pretty quickly to anything else.

How are you getting on with the Stila?

Natural Elements sorted my rosacea out - you can chat to their derm on FB and he sends you samples to try too.
