Started wearing nail varnish again. Mostly plums and nudes.

Got OPI big apple today as wanted a red. It’s a pinky. Want a proper red. Any ideas.

Also any other lovely colours you can recommend please. Time to be brave.

Essie Rock the Runway. My holy grail red (excuse wanky terminology but it is).

EssentiallyDelighted · 16/01/2021 07:28

Rimmel Double Decker Red

shotofchips · 16/01/2021 07:45

Rimmel make excellent but cheap nail varnishes. Really good reds.

I use Nails Inc base and top coats and my nails last me around a week, and that's with a toddler

2021sunshine · 16/01/2021 07:57

I definitely like the thought of Cheap but excellent!

Both those reds are good although rimmel I can get in the supermarket in a moment!

I have a no7 base coat and too coat so I’ll use that for now but look at nails inc when it’s time to buy more.

Ive always played safe on my hands but time to have some fun.

@jackjackjacks do you have to use the essie top coat for it to work?

Essie fishnet stockings

AmethystMoonShine · 16/01/2021 08:07

I have used the nails inc base and top coats for around 15 years now and absolutely refuse to use anything else!!

It allows me to use really cheap colours too! Win win xx

No, you don't have to. But that is also bloody excellent. Pricey though.

Maraki · 16/01/2021 08:33

My favourites:
Rimmel rock n roll, OPI red (true red)
OPI Malaga wine, or OPI got the blues for you red (dark vampy reds)
OPI black cherry chutney (dark purple almost black)
I always use No7 base and top coats, they work well for me.

princessbear80 · 16/01/2021 08:42

I think I’ll paint my nails red today too Smile

Haven’t painted them for at least a year!

shotofchips · 16/01/2021 08:48

Just spent £50 in nails inc!

Bizarrely they have a set in the sale containing the base and top coats that I adore, plus 4 colours for £29. The base and top coats separately are £15 each!!! So I got the set obviously (after making sure they were full size).

Also got White Horse Street which is my absolute favourite colour, possibly of all time. Had to get in in a set of three with two other white-based colours but it too was in the sale (full sized again) at £18! Bargain.

Got a face mist for £6, half price as my current one is running out. I checked the ingredient list out and seems really good quality.

Love a bit of nails inc! (I don't work for them by the way)

2021sunshine · 16/01/2021 09:10

@shotofchips you are such an enabler or was it me?!

Had a look and sitting on hands literally. January is a long month money wise. Lol.

@princessbear80 do it! In these times we all deserve a treat.

Loving all these suggestions including most of those @Maraki.

Yeah I'm an enabler. I'm sorry Grin

namechangetogamechange · 16/01/2021 09:42

Oh and because you said 'other classics' have a look at Essie Sand Tropez. It's beautiful and gets many compliments. I wore it on my wedding day

cheesypeas123 · 16/01/2021 10:16

I love Essie Fifth Avenue - it’s a modern orangy red nice & bright! Lasts me the guts of a week with seche vite top coat.

BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 16/01/2021 11:03

Yeah I'm an enabler. I'm sorry

damn you

EssentiallyDelighted · 16/01/2021 14:34

I bought this one recently, a darker red and I really like it, My Mood polish from Boots colour Lover. Excuse the chips, it's been on all week

I was given a gorgeous red nail varnish by Yves Saint Laurent -Rouge Pop Art

viewsoftheshard · 16/01/2021 15:00

Dior Rouge is a fabulous red that lasts. Always love the Chanel colours but they just chip too easily for the price. I wore Lilac Fairy by Nailberry in the summer and it was a great colour that lasted. Have just bought their pomegranate juice, it’s a bit sheer though so needs 3 coats but love the colour. Also love Nails Inc, Tate was a great red.

XingMing · 16/01/2021 15:03

Favourite red is CND Chili. Or Fishnet Stockings or Meet Me At Sunset (but that's quite orange) both Essie.

HalfBrick · 16/01/2021 15:07

I found a great bright red in Primark for £1! Really nice brush, goes on so easily, good consistency and you can get away with 1 coat.
I bought a baby pink one too but that was rubbish and streaky. I do like that the bottles are smaller so you don't end up throwing away half a bottle when they inevitably thicken over time.
