My hair is really dry - used Olaplex and I think it's stopped it breaking but I need something for my thirsty locks!

My hair has a lot of colour on the ends but only bleached highlights from the mid length upwards.

We live in a hard water area and I've been using Olaplex - shampoo conditioner and the treatments (my hairdresser gave me no1). I think these are great for strengthening it but I'm worried they may be leaving to build up?

I've got some L'Oreal kerastase but it got sulfates in it and I'd heard these are not good for the hair.
Or is it just the weather and the fact I only wash it every 10 days or so now!
This pic is my hair straightened. I also use either Aveda split end or Philip Kingsley split end repair on it.

Have you tried aveda dry hair shampoo or botanical repair? Their stuff usually works.

There’s an online quiz to make sure you buy the right one.

My hair is thick, curly, and overprocessed from 30 years of hair dying. It has been transformed by using Olaplex No.1 every couple of weeks (I leave it for 30mins before shampooing) and then I follow with Kerastase Discipline no sulfates shampoo and Kerastase Discupline mask instead of conditioner twice a week. The mask says to leave it on for 3-5 minutes, but I get excellent results when I have the time to leave it for 20 minutes. This plus a trim every 2 months have totally transformed my hair and made it healthy and silky from a dry, thirsty, frizzy mess.

Hi Maraki - I use the Olaplex range and my hair is still dry. It's stopped it breaking but it's not made it silky. I might the discipline range though.

I have very very dry hair (I’m on medication that “steals” every spare bit of moisture I have to keep my blood pressure normal) and I’ve been using The Hairdresser’s invisible oil shampoo, conditioner and primer since September. Honestly, it’s worked miracles. My hair is soft and glossy. It’s sulphate free and doesn’t cause any build up, as far as I can tell. It’s a little on the expensive side, but usually on offer somewhere.

Philip Kingsley elastisizer. Made such a big difference to mine

Also stopping dying / bleaching would help.

Plus a good trim always makes my hair feel better (when they are open!!!)

The Shea Moisture range is incredible and is natural and sulfate/paraben free. My hair is bleached and would be in utterly dire straits without it. I've tried countless different products before, including many very expensive ones, but Shea Moisture wins.

I use the Strengthen Grow and Restore Treatment Masque or Intensive Hydration Hair Masque on my lengths and ends each time I wash my hair. I also use the leave in conditioner (you only need a tiny bit or it makes your hair feel overloaded and greasy). My hair is soft and stays soft until I wash it again (unlike with products with sulfates where it feels dry within a couple of days).

I haven't tried the rest of the range but reckon it's lovely. I buy the products online but they also sell in Boots/Superdrug.

I use Olaplex 3, leaving it on for as long as possible once a fortnight and John Frieda Hydrate and Recharge and really think my hair is better for it. There is an article in today’s Sunday Times about other products for dry hair.

Thanks guys. I've ordered small sizes of the Aveda. My hair isn't split - I trimmed 2 inches off the ends a few days ago. My ends are dry because I reckon the last 3 inches of my hair have been highlighted and dyed (I went from blonde to brown back to blonde in the summer of 2019) the rest only has one set of highlights (from September!) and you can tell how much better the hair is! That picture is when it needed a serious wash, when it is just washed it doesn't look too bad. will check out the article thanks mdh
Woudl love to stop the bleach highlights but when they are only done once in a while they don't seem to make my hair too dry. And they make my hair (medium texture) easier to style.
